Remember the Arms Race? Reason writer Petr Beckmann was fond of exposing the methods whereby skillful emotional conditioning through social pressure and documendacities–as in Huxley’s Brave New World–got results better than the crude loudspeaker dinning and torture in Orwell’s 1984. We’ve seen how social pressure from a simple action or wordless example leads 1/4 of all ordinary people into gross error without any addition of threats or reward.(link)
After WW2 Americans were conditioned to believe that any preparedness to repel an attack would ipso facto incite one. Movies conjured terrifying “envy the dead” scenarios. Military personnel were urged to believe that treason was noble and resistance suicidal. Such movies persist, alongside urgings for electors to defect en masse so a loser politician can save the world from an elected politician. The Bill of Rights and main body of the Constitution are under persistent attack. Such pressure actually got Nixon to sign a treaty forbidding These States to deploy antimissile systems while permitting Moscow an umbrella of ABM protection.(link)
All or nearly all collective child shootings occur in government schools. Private schools have few or no shootings at all. These shootings have increased since 1986, when Second Amendment objections undermined suicidal arms treaties.(link) A new approach to shortening the Bill of Rights might be to hold government-school children hostage via constant sprinkling of conditioning spices administered by TV and other media. “But all the while his subconscious is being conditioned into tender feelings toward the benign, beautiful, and soothing adjective solar, and into revulsion against the sinister, alarming, and altogether indecent adjective nuclear”, observed Beckmann in 1980.
Parallel to anti-energy conditioning is the constant drip of insinuations that getting rid the Second Amendment would make school shootings go away.(link) So if hidden persuaders are using operant conditioning to manipulate government school kids kids into volunteering as Communist Martyr High School attackers, what can counter this? Privatization of those government schools commandeered by Nixon-law-subsidized entrenched political parties dedicated to the initiation of deadly force as some sort of panacea against vice?
Unthinkable! Thoughtcrime! NOT an option. Better to have bloody school shootings than to give up tax-funded government schools able to
brainwash condition the kiddies–is the predictable “silent majority” response.
But this Texas case suggests another option, a possible alternative to the FEMA instructions for kiddies taken hostage by
whack jobs Manchurian candidates emotionally disturbed classmates.(link) If your parents and local law enforcement would rather see you killed than privatize government schools or help subdue an amok killer, do the following:
Call 911. If the government-employee operator does not hang up on you for whispering, tell him/her/it that an illegal alien drug smuggler with a suitcase full of cash has locked the door and is trying to get you and your classmates to smoke marijuana cigarettes. I’ll bet five dollars those doughnut-munchers will leap into action, batter down the door, arrest the perp and confiscate his assets before you can say “Asset Forfeiture Policy Manual!”(link) This “operant conditioning” business can work both ways, you see.
Good Reading: Armageddon, The Battle for Germany, by Max Hastings (Link)
A rambling but vivid exposé of the bloody reprisals visited on the people who let democracy be replaced by Christian National Socialism and Hitler’s personality cult. This is an instructive account of how for every initiation of force, there is unequal yet apposite retaliatory force. Entire populations paid a heavy price for dereliction instead of eternal vigilance.
