Star Wars and Climate Change

sdi83

Soviet propagandists made a major strategic blunder nicknaming America’s Strategic Defense Initiative “Star Wars.” True, there were easily triggered, sensitive, concerned & aware children on campus convinced the Lucasfilm blockbuster was there “to condition the people into fighting a nuclear war.” (Sample here).

Communist intellectuals instantly snapped this up as the magic meme to counter Reagan’s project for neutralizing incoming ballistic missiles and developing traction for the Surrender Movement. It backfired miserably, and the Prez even commented the “Star Wars” monicker hadn’t been a successful move. Turco, Toon Ackerman Pollock and Sagan produced the TTAPS report.  One computer meddler nobody mentions claimed that no computer code could ever possibly track incoming ICBMs. Edward Teller commented that “Highly speculative theories of worldwide destruction—even the end of life on Earth—used as a call for a particular kind of political action serve neither the good reputation of science nor dispassionate political thought.”  Now, fast forward past the Berlin Wall and Soviet collapse…

The exact same ideology resurrected by many of the same players and NERF-herders is again upon us. Nuclear Winter gave way to the new nickname of Global Warming. The movement was organized in 1992, precisely as the Soviet empire was collapsing like a World Trade Center tower. (e.g. Science Vol 262 pp 1252-1255) The idea this time was to convince Americans that reliable electric power generation was bad–not because it complicated a Soviet nuclear attack–but because human slavery was more natural, eco-friendly and nobly altruistic than those yucky Buckminster Fuller “energy slaves” that converted horsepower into empowerment for a flourishing standard of living. Soviet socialism would be attained at last, but by conditioning and brainwashing, not nuclear brinkmanship. The alternative? Everybody dies!

The watermelon Green party formed and spewed forecasts of national socialist happiness and the spurning of material greed–a chorus picked up by the Union of Communist Scientists and CPUSA.org and imitated everywhere totalitarianism had become entrenched in the 1920s through 1992. Toppling the recalcitrant Democratic party (and girl-groper) via spoiler votes in the y2k election opened the floodgates, but instead of becoming warmer as the Prophets of the New Millerite apocalypse predicted with absolute certainty, temperatures remained constant within measurement error bars.

The prophesy was falsified by physical measurements, and satellite temperatures diverged from tamperable data as of the Y2K election. After 4 years of this the false prophets changed the narrative and began falsifying data to make the past colder and the present warmer. But EVERY momentary shift of ANY kind has since been exploited as a Sign from Heaven as curbside observations,  apocrypha and hearsay increasingly impersonate science.

The 2000 government bureaucrats infesting the IPCC were swamped by over 30,000 real scientists listed with actual degrees whose PetitionProject.org STOPPED ratification of the Kyoto Protocol by the U.S. Senate. Like Millerites after The Great Disappointment, ecological nationalsocialists rebooted. They changed their icon from the Global Warming non-starter to Climate Change. This was the subject of Dr. Michael Crichton’s “State of Fear.”  Just as No Nukes! had shape-shifted to Stop Star Wars!, so Global Warming underwent a makeover into Climate Change.

But as Geologist Ian Plimer of Australia, nonmystical author of Heaven and Earth testifies: “Climate always changes, always has, and always will.”

Look me up if you ever need translations from Latin America, Mozambique or Angola.

Dem Jeffersonian Electors could still WIN

Rights, not coathangers!

Libertarian electoral vote before Roe v. Wade

Democratic Party activists chosen to cast electoral votes can still WIN Dec 19–if by winning we mean preserving women’s individual rights to make their own reproductive choices, and ending the GO-Pee’s economically suicidal Prohibitionism and War on Everything and Everyone Everywhere.

Backing Red China’s coercive tithes to Gaian religious belief in Misanthropomorphic Global Warming was the non-starter that has already cost Dems the election, those federal paychecks, and the hand in the till. George McGovern’s pandering for unilateral disarmament and surrender to Soviet communism had the same effect when he lost to Dick Nixon in 1972.  But still on the table are the coat-hanger abortions faith-based fanatics struggle to bring back. Then there’s the ramping up of Prohibitionism to restore gunfights to the streets of El Paso and Chicago–plus another asset-forfeiture crash with unemployment and economic depression.

Roger MacBride’s Libertarian electoral vote made pro-choice non-looters impossible for Republicans to ignore. War was raging as Nixon’s National Socialists struggled to allow States to legally lynch Planned Parenthood doctors. Within about a month of that single Libertarian electoral vote hitting the Federal Register, the Supreme Court ruled that women, like blacks, should have individual rights after all. Roe v. Wade was the LP’s first major victory for enforcement of individual rights through spoiler votes.

Democratic electors can vote for Gary Johnson, and set the example for their Republican adversaries. One such vote sufficed to persuade the Republican-dominated Supreme Court to strike down state abortion laws. Their fear was that women might find out about the pro-defense, pro-choice party with Tonie Nathan on the ticket defending individual rights for women. Roger MacBride’s electoral spoiler vote for Libertarian candidate John Hospers caused–I’ll wager–the Nixon appointee to write that majority decision. The 1973 news article shown mentions Ayn Rand, Objectivism, victimless crimes and abortion rights–the true and original Libertarian party agenda. We just earned 4 million votes–as many as are cast in the State of Virginia for its 13 electoral votes.

The Libertarian Party handed the Dems New Mexico’s five (05) electoral votes plus .  They still lost, thanks to a platform preaching ecological fascism and men with guns busting our kids for marijuana. So why not return those votes to the LP.org rather than waste them in a Quixotic protest that only adds insult to injury? Democratic partisans lacked the courage to stop police from murdering youth over marijuana. This is their chance to make a move for freedom and rights. Democrats could set an example to governments all over the world that now violate the individual rights of women-including use of deadly violence to enforce prohibitionism to benefit organized crime. The LP was the first party to earn an electoral vote for a pro-choice woman candidate.

Pascal’s Climate Wager

The reaction to recent elections displayed by most of those I observe–in Brazil and in the USA–resembles nothing so much as the Two Minutes Hate described by George Orwell. Orwell was the journalist Her Majesty’s Government sent to Germany in May or June of 1945 to reconnoiter and report on what there was to observe amid the vanquished NSDAP. Orwell observed miserable socialists staving amid ruins, dressed in ersatz paper clothing disintegrating into rags. Those memories came to life in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Goldstein was delivering his usual venomous attack upon the doctrines of the Party–an attack so exaggerated and perverse that a child should have been able to see through it, and yet just plausible enough to fill one with an alarmed feeling that other people, less level-headed than oneself, might be taken in by it. He was abusing Big Brother, he was denouncing the dictatorship of the Party, he was demanding the immediate conclusion of peace with Eurasia, he was advocating freedom of speech, freedom of the Press, freedom of assembly, freedom of thought, he was crying hysterically that the revolution had been betrayed…

Immanuel Goldstein: the original Global Warming Skeptic!

Now it is 2016, and the energy totalitarians infiltrating the Democratic party have caused that party’s womens’ rights agenda to be crushed by equally fanatical anti-choice totalitarians infiltrating the Republican party. So the Dilbert hypnotist-cartoonist who predicted this election outcome is working on a different filter for Radioactive PoisoningNuclear War, Nuclear Winter, The Coming Ice Age, Misanthropomorphic Global Warming, um… Climate Change?? Politicians and doomcriers have trotted out so many lame hobgoblins to frighten the ignorant that it is sometimes difficult to remember which are still fashionable and which “discredited,” old-fashioned, or out-of-date.

I dislike Scott Adams’ assumptions and find fault with his methods of inference. But his prediction that The Don would win the election, 4 to 1 odds against at Paddypower be damned, impressed me. Science is in the business of forming testable hypotheses and learning from how well they perform. All the antinuclear Millerites’ predictions failed—especially the surrender of the entire planet and its incorporation into Soviet Socialism. Theirs was a sort of Pascal’s Wager on the assumption that only the surrenderists were right, since only they had access to the inside scoop. Unfortunately, the unfalsifiable inside scoop, like Pascal’s Wager, made for predictions that were wrong. Global Warming prophets likewise relied on fear and assumptions rather than measurement and testing of hypotheses. The election result predictors–pollsters, prophets and bookies alike–also failed, to my immense surprise.

In Pascal’s day—specifically when he was eleven years old—the Holy Roman Apostolic Church burned one of its own priests at the stake for thoughtcrime everybody agreed had taken place at a nunnery. But Grandier had never so much as set foot inside of the nunnery. Young Pascal observed that facts did not matter in questions of his life and death. What mattered was consensus.

So it is not surprising that Pascal’s Wager comes across as a restatement of the supposition that the mob will burn you alive unless you parrot whatever the mob was duped into believing. Disguising the rationalization by papering it over with doublethink instead of admitting it is superstition is simply treacle on the pill. Any two superstitious mobs are all the pretext that is needed for Crusades, Jihads and thermonuclear combat over some trifling inanity way off to the right of the decimal place. I am indebted to Aldous Huxley, Eric Blair’s schoolmaster at Eton, for his presentation of the intellectual results of French catholicism in “The Devils of Loudon.” The book is out in English and Portuguese and there is even a really bad movie it spawned in the seventies. The silliness of Pascal’s wager, like the Emperor’s New Clothes wardrobe, becomes more transparent the closer you examine it.

I am mainly worried about the side effects of pseudoscience and superstition. That Mohammedans open boiled eggs at the skinny end and Christians at the fat end is of no consequence to me, nor will I take up cudgels for breaking eggs in the middle. It is the bloodlust—like the dog going batty when the other dogs all bark in unison at the Invasion of the Trash Collectors—that causes me just enough concern to pick up a pen and point out how foolish the whole show looks. I do this mainly so that I can enjoy electrical power and other harmless freedom (when it’s religiously fanatical Luddites barking). Nobel laureate physicist Ivar Giaever speaks for me on the absolutely unfounded assertions and moronic claims of this latest batch of looter ex-scientists, their flawed models and their WRONG predictions.

(Disclosure) I vote the straight Libertarian Party ticket, and I’m proud of it!

Descaso no Brasil

aedesNo Brasil a situação é diferente.

Atlas Shrugged, 1943

franciscodanconia1943

Young Francisco D’Anconias

Surely you’re thinking “The Fountainhead,” I hear you wonder… but neither book was written in a day. The Fountainhead was indeed part of the war effort against National Socialist collectivism–including its religious component. Safely ensconced within These States, Ayn Rand, age 38, read in the newspapers about how in the Europe she’d fled, Germans and Russians fought, starved, bled and died–whether enslaved to sacrifice for Communism or enslaved to save German NSDAP Christianity from “stock market jewry.” (Does this sound familiar? Occupy Wall Street?)

As usual, These States got sucked into the vortex of that foreign war after the attack on Hawaii. Newspapers and radio were the internet of the 1930s and 1940s. In their pages young Ayn Rand read about Sweden’s fantastic new Harden metal alloy, shadowy Match Kings and Beer Barons. She read about young men whose ambition led them to hire on with railroad maintenance crews in 1943 nazimayors1946before maturing into Copper Barons able to rattle stock markets into a panic with a gesture.  This latter news item was framed in exhortations to buy war bonds, with air raid signals and instructions on the facing page. She also read of the Allied Military Government putting some Nazis back in power while hanging others for genocide as she was writing Atlas Shrugged.

The same thing is happening today. Christian National Socialism, motivated by altruism, now targets a different semitic people and religion–all the while angling to monopolize and control drug markets through the only mechanism it understands… war, coercion, murder.  Totalitarian communist territory has dwindled to Cuba, China, North Korea, Venezuela and a tiny scattering of pestilent dictatorships likewise limited to war, coercion, murder as ways of getting things done in the name of altruism. The ku-klux fascists‘ competition? Lay or Gaian socialists claiming to be democrats, likewise motivated by altruism–and guided by pseudoscience to rule by violence.

Christians and Gaians alike are terrified of imaginary hobgoblins. LSD-possessed Manson clan communists plot with Saracen terrorists to lead Christian youth away from Jesus and confiscate their money and guns, worry the former–with some justification as to the money. The Gaians’ nightmares are animated by Ku-klux mercantilist plutocrats advised by mad scientists and Hell-bent on turning the planet into a rotisserie,–with urine testing with licensing regulations so that only their toadies have jobs. Again, their fears as to urine-test blacklisting are not at all unfounded.

This is the Cold War all over again, with different actors–but always and on both sides the same altruism and reliance on faith as opposed to reliable evidence. The one constant is the belief that altruism is a good enough reason to have someone else pick up deadly weapons and coerce some third party. But… by what standard is altruism or the initiation of force good?

Fiscal Conservative?

bushmonkeyGeorge W Bush was the last Republican president. He issued Executive Orders such as…
13279: …Consistent with the Free Exercise Clause and the Free Speech Clause of the Constitution, faith-based organizations should be eligible to compete for Federal financial assistance used to support social service programs and to participate fully in the social service programs supported with Federal financial assistance without impairing their independence, autonomy, expression, or religious character. (…)
Specified agency heads shall, in coordination with the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (White House OFBCI), review and evaluate existing policies that have implications for faith-based and community organizations in order to assess the consistency of such policies with the fundamental principles and policymaking criteria articulated in section 2 of this order.

So who are we talking about in this Executive Order, issued amid total financial collapse?

Sec. 8. Functions of Heads of Departments Concerned and Additional Functions of the Director of National Intelligence.

(a) To the extent permitted by law, the DNI and the heads of departments concerned shall provide such information and assistance as the PIAB and the IOB may need to perform functions under this order.

(A) copies of reports submitted to the IOB pursuant to section 1.7(d) of Executive Order 12333, or a corresponding provision of any successor order; and

(B) such information and assistance as the DNI may need to perform functions under this order; and

(ii) designate the offices within their respective organizations that shall submit reports to the IOB required by Executive Order and inform the DNI and the IOB of such designations; and

(iii) ensure that departments concerned comply with instructions issued by the DNI under subsection 7(a)(ii) of this order.

(c) The head of a department concerned who does not implement a recommendation to that head of department from the PIAB under subsection 4(b) of this order or from the IOB under subsections 6(c) or 6(d) of this order shall promptly report through the DNI to the Board that made the recommendation, or to the President, the reasons for not implementing the recommendation.

(d) The DNI shall ensure that the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency performs the functions with respect to the Central Intelligence Agency under this order that a head of a department concerned performs with respect to organizations within the intelligence community that are part of that department.

Sec. 9. References and Transition. (a) References in Executive Orders other than this order, or in any other presidential guidance, to the “President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board” shall be deemed to be references to the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board established by this order.

(c) Individuals who are members of the Intelligence Oversight Board under Executive Order 12863 immediately prior to the signing of this order shall be members of the Intelligence Oversight Board under this order, to serve as such consistent with this order until the date that is 15 months following the date of this order.

(d) The individual serving as Executive Director of the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board immediately prior to the signing of this order shall serve as the Executive Director of the PIAB until such person resigns, dies, or is removed, or upon appointment of a successor under this order and shall serve as the Executive Director of the IOB until an Executive Director of the IOB is appointed or designated under this order.

Um… wasn’t Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate, a fiscally responsible elected official for two terms as governor of New Mexico?

Prohibition, Crash, Repeal, repeat

Depression drives repeal

Black indicates Dry Counties banning Drink in a 1913 newspaper

A lot of misdirection goes into keeping voters from noticing recurrent patterns. No Republican wants to hear awkward questions like “Why did the economy collapse during alcohol prohibition in 1907 and 1929?” It took the GOP twenty years to erase connection between Prohibition and The Crash and again put religious zealots in the saddle–with Richard Nixon as Vice-President. “Under God” was added to the Bellamy Pledge of Allegiance and graven images were added to our currency.

Yet the record of history won’t go away. The internet has made it possible for people to look up unrevised history and see “politics as she is.” Take the Panic of 1907, when the labeling requirements of the Pure Food and Drug Law of 1906, brought on by a Chinese boycott of US exports, became enforceable. Sears and Montgomery Wards could no longer quietly ship heroin-spiked alcoholism cures and syringes to China. Distillers were brought under scrutiny as the US Pharmacopeia became a legal standard for defining words such as “whiskey.”

Surely similar events had nothing to do with the asset-forfeiture Crash the George Bush Jr. Administration oversaw in 2007–that by 2008 had completely collapsed the United States economy. Or could they? The one word you never see in connection with the Panic of 1907, Crash of 1929 or Depressions of 1932, 1988, or 2007-12 is PROHIBITION.

During TR and Taft’s Republican “noughts,” only Mr Dooley had the courage to mention the spiking of whiskey with cheap morphine in the South. There was a morphine glut because the Chinese were again (as in 1837, 1840, 1856, 1900 and 1907) upset enough to forcibly exclude the dumping of genuinely addictive narcotics over there. Such dumping was indeed permitted by a punitive treaty the US had ratified after the Boxer Rebellion.

The dumping of opiates in the Philippine Islands and Hawaii at about this time led to a frightening surge in addiction. Pretty soon, Americans enforcing sudden “cold turkey” prohibition in the Philippine Islands (while also banning the relatively less harmful alternative, beer) were picked off by snipers and hacked to bits in insurgent raids.

The US economy felt a depression in 1903-04 as another haughty treaty (defining Christians as good) heaped humiliation upon the Celestial Empire. Domestically, the excesses of crony mercantilism clashed with fanatical prohibitionism, this time under Republican Theodore Roosevelt. It was Teddy who, as Police Commissioner, had closed down so many saloons in New York City. Beer was banned from all US military canteens and Post Exchanges.

The 47th Annual Brewers’ Convention in 1907 reported that “Legislation of an unfavorable character has been undertaken in the legislatures of many states.” Ice was what made beer cold. Then as now “ice house” was usually a name for places cold beer was served. Dry Christianity, fresh from legislating Chinese Exclusion laws and labeling of narcotics as such, now declared Total War on The Ice Trust, including Knickerbocker, and Gambrinus’ Kingdom of Beer.  This struggle, assisted by Attorney-General Bonaparte, stretched and tore at the fabric of the US economy in the year 1907.

The Panic of 1907 was driven mainly by unintended consequences of prohibitionism, mostly in the Deep South. Alabama, for instance, made beer and the Demon Rum hideous crimes, with most of the state bone-dry in early 1907. A year later, after the economic collapse, the picture was completely reversed, yet no one admitted that prohibition had caused the Crash and Panic or that repeal was the logical response.

1907panic2007

When the stock market began its collapse in March of 1907, the President loudly denied government action had been the cause. Likewise both George Bush asset-forfeiture Crusades–especially once the government had been packed with “faith-based” organizations and activists for Bush Jr’s second term–ended in economic disaster. Sure enough, there were recessions in 1988, 1992 and 2007. Here is George Bush acting like the government had nothing to do with the debacle.

Sure enough, not a word is said about the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) his Administration unleashed. But New Mexico, Vermont, Michigan, New Jersey, Arizona, Massachussetts, Washington, Maryland, Alaska and Oregon all legalized marijuana within seven years of George Bush’s asset-forfeiture crash. States had reacted to collapse in much the same way after President Hoover’s use of asset forfeiture to enforce laws that made light beer a felony.

flashcrash050610

The Flash Crash of May 6, 2010 coincided with DEA seizures of bank accounts belonging to Colombian nationals, and the Flash Crash of March 18, 2015 coincided down to the minute with international reaction to the release of the Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs International Narcotics Control Strategy Report, Volume II, Money Laundering and Financial Crimes on that date.

20150318_flashcrash

None of these things are mentioned in the financial press or platforms of the entrenched political parties.  The 2016 Republican Party Platform likewise says nothing about the financial hazards of coercive prohibitionism, but rather:

The progress made over the last three decades against drug abuse is eroding, whether for cultural reasons or for lack of national leadership. In many jurisdictions, marijuana is virtually legalized despite its illegality under federal law.

Compare that with the 2016 Libertarian Party Platform:

Therefore, we favor the repeal of all laws creating “crimes” without victims, such as the use of drugs for medicinal or recreational purposes.

Spare a thought for these myriad shocks to the US (and world) economies. Consider the safety and financial future of the younger generation as you prepare to vote.
