Tarl on Libertarian Immigration

Tarl Warwick offers news and information on the web, and does it better than the people I pay to inform me (like Reason Magazine). Here is his take on immigration policy.

With the LP platform committee bristling with more narcs, infiltrators and provocateurs than a sixties SDS rally, this sort of calm, commonsense convocation to use one’s brain is as apropos as all getout.

One thing needs to be background. We all realize that a right is an ethical claim to freedom of action, and that freedom itself is the absence of initiated coercion, not all that many appreciate the definition of government. This was clearly formulated and published in 1919 by mixed-economy statist Max Weber in Politics as a Vocation:

“Today, however, we have to say that a state is a human community that (successfully) claims the monopoly of the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory. Note that ‘territory’ is one of the characteristics of the state.”–Max Weber

That Pythagoras was superstitious as a loon, or Einstein a nationalizing socialist looter says nothing about their theories. The communist looters who infiltrate the LP avoid mention of Weber, or of Ayn Rand’s take on the Weber definition. But less than a year after government was defined, Adolf Hitler, painter of churches, peasant girls and Madonnas with Baby Jesus, penned his National Socialist Labor Party platform packed full of the initiation of force and invasion and looting across OTHER people’s borders in the true spirit of altruism.

A country without political boundaries is a battlefield. Look at old newspapers with French, Canadian and British troops capturing and recapturing stinking cratered trenches and there you have the undefined borders that cause anarchist communists to heave sighs of stunned admiration. But remember, that was before 1945, the year nuclear weapons–designed to vanquish socialism and its allies–came of age. Nowadays nobody cares how many invading conscripts you are able to enslave.

Why Anarchists Infiltrate

If legalized murder and anarchism were my goal I would work against the Libertarian Party by removing 1972 choice planks and replacing them with invitations for anarchists and religious fanatics to again institutionalize extrajudicial killings–as occurred everywhere before WWI, and in These States from 1920 to 1933 under National Prohibition. Recent changes to the platform amount to exactly such an invitation.(link)

Spend some time with anarchists who pose as libertarians and one thing becomes clear. Defense of individual rights by objectively-defined laws is what anarchists do NOT want. Instead of Milton Friedman or Ayn Rand–whom they promptly turned against us, beginning in 1973 these miscreants follow a boring economist with a German accent and Hitler mustache and press NOW for rule by vigilante lynch mobs. They meanwhile alienate voters by loudly calling themselves “libertarians.”(link)

Cognitive Mental Blocks

Ecological National Socialists have no trouble understanding how two logical variables yield four possibilities when it suits their agenda. The NFPA circulates the above (admittedly garbled) chart in support of violent laws against anything liable to interrupt a game of dominoes at the government-owned fire station.

But teevee, subsidized by the Nixon anti-libertarian law to ignore everything except kleptocracy, can only focus on three possibilities.

Yet those same intellectuals become one-dimensional when challenged to understand anything that lies outside the Venn Diagram circles encompassing socialism in its populist and communo-fascist variants. A blinkered looter visualizes a straight line running from Hitler/Mussolini/Franco to Stalin/Ceausescu/Mao with nothing in between but religious gradations of socialist and mystical altruism.

To the entire satisfaction of mystical prohibitionists, adding alcohol to water eventually transubstantiates the latter into a Satanic alcoholic beverage, and adding (non-mohammedan) religion to a heavily-mixed economy gradually changes it from “bad” socialism to (by their lights) “good” fascism. Nowadays fascists and socialists alike refer to their own system as “democracy” and that other one, respectively, as socialism or fascism.

In These States the Tordesillas line was drawn at an alcoholic content of 0.5% in the Prohibition Enforcement act drawn up by Andrew Volstead of Minnesota. This distinction also made sauerkraut evil, Satanic and illegal. But when this law enforcing the Prohibition Amendment flipped off the lights of freedom on the night of January 16th, 1920, the U.S. Senate, by declining to be a party to the Treaty of Versailles, kept us technically at war with Germany, or The Accursed Hun as it was known at the time. So no True American™ really cared about sauerkraut.

Among today’s fanatics–struggling to ban electric power or plant leaves instead of beer–none have even the foggiest notion or how an individual right might be defined. To them a right is something the world owes them at your expense, not a moral claim to freedom of action. Most puzzling to this mentality is confrontation with the Nolan Diagram. Even survivors of the Argentine educational system can grasp a 2-gradient chart between freedom and orders at gunpoint when broken down according to the two primary contexts (individual personhood and agency as homo economicus) from which they fish for pretexts to justify aggression at gunpoint.

Here is an Argentine version of the Nolan Chart in its version tilted so as to allow the one-dementional to superimpose upon it their own universe of discourse confined to a horizontal line extending from Hitler to Stalin.

To American National Socialists, for whom Herbert Hoover, Richard Nixon and George Wallace are plain, regular folks, this Argentine chart makes no sense whatsoever. Ever since Carnegie Institute Liberals formed an anti-Klan, pro-Beer party in 1930, then published a platform demanding the repeal of the Prohibition Amendment, the word liberal changed its meaning. Shortly before Election Day, in late October of 1932, the ruling coalition redefined liberal to mean “godless communist drunkards who hate America” in the costume of its own imaginings.

Citizens of civilized nations are utterly baffled by this coinage–minted as it were in the very heart of the Sahara of the Bozarts over which Richmond Hobson of Alabama, Morris Sheppard of Texas and Volstead shone beatifically as the very embodiment of the Holy Trinity… while voters locked the head of the Republican Party into the stocks of the guillotine and gave the lever a satisfying tug.

Argentine Libertarian Party

Eighty-seven years later, liberal everywhere else in the world still means libertarian. Cowardly, spineless, unprincipled or gelded libertarian, true enough, but libertarian or liberal is in both cases lies at the root of the noun denoting an individual who recognizes the individual rights of fellow human beings–even in opposition to the Divine “right” (meaning sanction to murder and rob) of kings, popes, caudillos and klans. 

So all is not lost. Looter values begin and end with “we must issue the following orders at gunpoint” because (__insert rationalizing pretext__). If the pretext is “because the Bible says altruism is good,” then the speaker is fascist-prohibitionist-totalitarian in value orientation. If the pretext is “because selfishness feels like it ought to be denounced as evil,” then the speaker is a conditioned socialist-collectivist-communist-totalitarian.

Argentinos–politically separated by a papal line on a map–cannot completely let go of the one-dimensional lay/progressive v. religious/fascist differentiation. But today they at least they grasp the concept of how two related choices generate four possible outcomes. That’s progress Americans would do well to understand.

Soldier of the Red Army! Do not give your sweetheart to be shamed and dishonored by the Hitler thugs.

The Soviet communist government had by late 1932 counterfeited troubling amounts of U.S. currency. This may been a destabilizing response to “our” President Herbert Clark Hoover’s Moratorium on Brains. (This was the economic intervention that helped Germany evade reparations payments, elect Hitler and rearm). The fact that ten years later those angry Soviet Socialists were allied with America against Christian National Socialism is a twist of irony so troubling that one ought not be surprised that altruists on both sides of that divide struggle to evade contemplating it.

American plutonium intended for NSDAP Germany was produced in graphite reactors. Electrical power reactors invented later used water for slowing neutrons. Not long after a poorly planned experiment wrecked one of the Chernobyl graphite reactors powering a huge antimissile radar antenna, the U.S. began ABM initiatives under the Second Amendment and a teenager landed a  plane near Red Square. The outcome was that that particular variant of communo-fascist socialism went into the dustbin and millions voted with their feet by fleeing into mercantilist mixed economy states in which “elections” featured a nominal choice between perhaps two parties instead of just the one.

Mercantilist economies sicken as they emulate socialist coercion and become wealthier as they approach economic freedom and individual rights. This occurs in a smooth differentiable gradient with no tipping points or Malthusian disasters–at least not in the direction of coercion reduction. Only socialist dictatorships left landscapes so poisoned that over two decades later vast areas are barely habitable at all. Rising from the wreckage is the Ukraine, now struggling to build a Libertarian Party.  In neighboring Russia, communism still gets close to 10% of the vote, but that is easily less than the number of U.S. voters eager for totalitarianism.

In These United States the Democratic party, by the CPUSA’s own admission, is a socialist enough soviet to produce candidates satisfactory to devout Leninists. That party still gets over half the popular vote, but its membership is shrinking. Republican Prohibitionists and Dixiecrat die-hards have also been dropping dead since 1972.  Only the persistence of Nixon-era campaign subsidies protect The Kleptocracy from rapid replacement, but that replacement is nonetheless inexorable.

Democracies were encroaching upon monarchies…

Fivescore and eleven years ago HL Mencken held forth on his interpretation of the thoughts of Friedrich Nietzsche. Mencken’s parents were German. Germans had flowed into both Texas and the USA during the build-up to the Opium Wars, and published newspapers. Henry Lewis was uniquely positioned to understand, and that he did.

The Philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche is an eight-dollar book not discussed much in objectivist circles. In it unfolds an examination of Christian beatitudes oddly reminiscent of Galt’s Speech–that part of Atlas Shrugged mystical conservatives scrupulously avoid reading and never attempt to refute. Yet the German’s perorations, as interpreted in American, shed light on the previous and upcoming elections.

Before individual rights were defined, as mankind wearily shrugged off God’s Own Papist monarchies, semi-log paper made a logistics curve appear as a straight line in which monarchies shrivel toward zero and “democracies” gain market share. The planet was approaching the point of inflection in the sigmoid substitution curve.

Government was just being defined and would in 1914 acquire stable meaning as a bounded monopoly on legitimate force. But rights, hence legitimacy, were undefined other than by Jefferson’s tentative and partial enumeration and “freak legislation” had the year previous transformed the Pure Food Law into machinery for destroying the U.S. economy.

Ayn Rand wrote fan mail to HL Mencken, obviously read his writings on Nietzsche, and just as obviously noticed the absence of individual rights. What passed for rights to the German were 1. things the individual is able to do despite opposition by his fellow men, and 2. things he is enabled to do by the grace and permission of his fellow men. Meh.

While Germans were swinging from the gallows in Nuremberg, Ayn Rand reformulated life, eudaimonia, as the touchstone standard of moral value whereby rights could be legitimized in terms of choices that make happiness possible. Another writer, mathematician Larry Niven, in Protector developed a race of Nietzschean alien supermen that were brave, competent, smart, but lacking in the happiness Jefferson associated with rights and even Nietzsche associated with philosophy.

 

Votes for Libertarian Freedom replacing Collectivism and Sacrifice party votes

Rand’s Non-Aggression Pledge handily trashed Aldous Huxley’s “peace through inanition” policy and lay the ethical framework for a society unbowed by braying mystics, unsubmissive to the sacrificial demands of grim totalitarians, and unyielding in its commitment to progress toward happy freedom in the minimization–perhaps eventual elimination of the initiation of force–one war criminal at a time, if need be. In Rand’s Hollywood days, filming King of Kings while Calvin Coolidge restrained dangerous fanatical zeal, pledges were still a popular thing.

Selfishness before Ayn Rand

In 1940 France and Britain were having expensive regrets about welshing on the loans they’d begged from the United States during WWI.

These United States were again selling them victuals and materiel they could not obtain from National Socialist Europe or Soviet Socialist Asia. But enslaving American youth to again intercede in bloody squabbles among European opiate peddlers was asking a bit much. To European socialists of both national and international persuasions, this refusal to sacrifice was the height of egotistical selfishness.  But is that the same as greed?

Ayn Rand had published Anthem in an England that was rapidly being transformed into the exact setting in which the novella had unfolded. Yet British intellectual-impersonators still echoed Hitler’s calls for “The Common Good Before the Individual Good.” Fifth-column agitators meanwhile harkened back to to the very Jesus der Fuehrer so often quoted, exhorting Parliament to surrender:

“Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.” –Matthew 5:39

But Americans were learning by watching the “peace” coercive altruism had forged in Europe since the Molotov-Ribbentrop Agreement divvying Poland. Slavery, starvation, war and pestilence sprouted wherever predatory altruism lifted its outstretched arm in salute. The purpose of applied altruistic socialism (whether Christian fascism or lay communism) is to seize by force and threat of violence that which someone else has labored to produce. Ask yourself if this does not sound just a bit like greed, like coveting–then seizing–your neighbor’s goods?

FAITH, OBEDIENCE, FIGHTING SPIRIT–The Catechisms of Fascism

Karl Marx did not use the word “capitalism” in his Altrurian Bible.  But his disciples wasted no time in re-coining the term to describe the Christian monarchic mercantilism built upon coercive monopoly, slave labor and opium wars viewed as sublimely utopian by Adam Smith. Yet here we are in the 21st Century, while superstitious fanatics raid households and vehicles while looting bank and brokerage accounts under the aegis of “asset forfeiture.” If you rob a judge at gunpoint, that is your act of robbery. If the judge sends goons to rob you, that is your forfeiture of assets in the language of looter kleptocracy. Make sense? Libertarian, on the other hand, makes it clear that robbery and extortion are double-plus ungood.

Ayn Rand and Sex

Conservatives of the collectivist, chaste and “celibate” persuasions, and other socialists–especially those catasterized freaks whose reading is limited to scripts–fall all over themselves at the chance to criticize Ayn Rand’s views on sex. None leap to the fore with explanations of the value of altruism, or to castigate her views on the initiation of force.

For starters, the gal was Russian, educated, and not a congregant of mystical altruist sects. She arrived in These States a Hollywood aficionada and Pola Negri fan–but also a fully functioning young woman at a time when 99 and 44/100% of such cloche-hatted creatures watched Rudolph Valentino movies with an intensity unmanifested since Argos watched Io. American women made first use of the vote to place America’s handsomest womanizer, Warren Gamaliel Harding–he of dowdy wife and three pretty mistresses–in the Executive Mansion in Washington using their 1920 election ballots.

Ayn arrived in 1926, shortly after some 10 million young men had been killed and twice as many again wounded in the Great War to forestall ratification of the Hague opium convention in the middle of an opiate glut. There was certainly no glut of eligible bachelors as Ayn Rand surveyed the pickings in Hollywood.  She literally tripped herself a man while working as a ragged extra in King of Kings, and squired by Frank doubtless took in such flickering delights as  “Son of The Sheik” (1926).

In The Sheik, the manly Saracen Ahmed, played by Valentino, captures a white girl (Agnes Ayres) complete with jodphurs, pith helmet and scarf. He tauntingly inquires whether his coy and flighty captive she is not “woman enough to know” why he brought her to his tent. There followed this priceless repartée:

“I am not accustomed to having my orders disobeyed!”

“And I am not accustomed to obeying orders!”

“You will learn!”

But the macho Ottoman ravisher plays the nice guy and fails to make his move–to the horror and disappointment of neglected American girls smoulderingly jealous of those anorexic, à la garçonne hussies lately boosting the troops’ morale “Over There!” That fault was corrected in Son of the Sheik, which hit the silver screen just as young Ayn Rand joined silent movie audiences. In it, a reformed Valentino wastes no time having his way with an (unwitting) honey-trap Mata Hari (Vilma Banky)–by engraved invitation–in a plot twist foreshadowing Kira Argonouva’s gaining of young Lev Kovalensky. There is even some foreshadowing left over for one of Mae West’s signature quips–about a gun.

Glittering o’er his faults, Valentino lustily redeems himself in the eyes of Russian and American womanhood, performing much like Francisco D’Anconia would thirty years later in Atlas Shrugged. Similarities may not have been entirely coincidence. Francisco’s full name was Francisco Domingo Carlos Andres Sebastian d’Anconia. Rudolph Valentino answered to  Rudolfo Alfonso Raffaello Pierre Filibert Guglielmi di Valentina D’Antonguolla.

Ayn Rand was no different from the millions of young American women who flocked to Valentino movies and too soon mourned his passing. Pola Negri, young Ayn’s Hollywood heroine since childhood, made a point of swooning over Valentino’s casket at every opportunity. The Fountainhead and Atlas were devoured by Robert A Heinlein, who promptly responded with another protagonist named Valentine in Stranger in a Strange Land. That very expression was first uttered by Dracula in Bram Stoker’s allegorical endorsement of Comstock Laws and the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice! Robert Rimmer novels like The Harrad Experiment, the Rebellion of Yale Marratt and Proposition 31–not to mention Grace Slick’s version of Triad, made Ayn’s unopposed and muscular dalliance with her handsome young admirer seem so tame in context that Howard Roark couldn’t help but laugh.

So 62 years after the publication of Atlas Shrugged–now selling briskly in 29 languages–Republican, Democrat, Green and Communist looters mask squirming envy with feigned shock. None dare defend altruism or the initiation of force on ethical grounds, yet Dr Tara Smith of the U. of Texas Philosophy Department has produced several alternative derivations validating Rand’s ethical and political conclusions, with likewise no response from the cognoscenti and intelligentzia. Theirs is the face of looter cowardice unmasked.

Canadian Liberals and American Libertarians

LP Candidate 2018?

Will the Libertarian Party sacrifice integrity to superstition? 

1968 — Nixon elected, Mi Lai massacre, GOP declares war on plant leaves, entheogens, segregationist American Party advocates War on Plant Leaves, gets 35 electoral votes. No US party published a Comstock law plank to ban or censor birth control that year, but George Wallace loudly insisted he wanted politicians to ban most birth control.

1968 — Prohibition party platform: No greater mistake has ever been made by the American people and their government than the Repeal of Prohibition. (This is the party that controls the GOP as of 1928.)

1969 — Canadian abortion activist Dr. Henry Morgentaler defies the law and opens an abortion clinic in Montreal.

1970 — Morgentaler clinic is raided and physician is charged with several offences. The Gestapo had 27 years earlier arrested Morgentaler for internment in its death camp eugenics program to cleanse humanity of Jewish selfishness and make the World safe for Positive Christianity.

1971 — American Libertarian Party formed by David Nolan, adopts the Non-Aggression Principle. This principle was formulated by Ayn Rand in 1947, as National Socialist eugenics proponents were being hanged at Nuremberg and elsewhere. Richard Nixon signs amendment to IRS Code making transfer payment subsidies via the income tax to entrenched Kleptocracy parties for electioneering in media.

1972 — Pro-choice, pro-defense, Libertarian Party candidates John Hospers and Toni Nathan earn one electoral vote from a state in which barred from the ballot.

1973 — Republican Supreme Court copies and pastes the 1972 Libertarian Party pregnancy plank into its Roe v. Wade decision using the 14th Amendment to secure individual rights for most pregnant women.

1974 — Morgentaler acquitted on abortion charges by Quebec jury, later overturned by Quebec Court of Appeal.

1976 — Prohibition party platform adds plank: We support a Constitutional Amendment to protect the unborn by prohibiting abortion except in those very rare cases where the life of the mother is seriously endangered.

1976 — Canadian Justice Minister orders retrial. Morgentaler acquitted by jury again in September. Newly elected Parti Quebecóis drops all charges.

1976 — Republican party platform copies from Prohibition Party the plank demanding a Prohibition Amendment to force pregnant women to reproduce by coercing physicians at gunpoint.

1980 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment.

1984 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment.

1988 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Declares “All persons born…” in 14th Amendment really means “All ova fertilized…” Supreme Court of Canada strikes down all laws restricting that individual right of women.  Goodthinkful Republican party politicians struggle to evade this decision as thoughtcrime.

1992 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Seeks Mussolini-precedent Lateran Treaty powers to force children in government schools to recite prayers.

1996 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Declares its support for Religious Mercantilism by calling it [get this!] “free-market Capitalism,” promises 5th Amendment protection against Asset-Forfeiture looting (except where prohibitionism enters the picture).

2000 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Demands formation of Junior Anti-Sex League and additional laws to coerce pubescent teens. 2001, George Bush Jr. signs Executive Order subsidizing infiltration of federal government by faith-based mystical organizations, as in the Mohammedan countries.

2004 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Expands demands to export prohibition of individual rights of women (and everyone else) to UN, advocates interference in international organizations to pressure them into coercing physicians who provide healthcare to women. Asset-forfeiture prohibitionism ramps up to wholesale armed robbery by men with government guns.

2008 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment. Demands protection by mock trial (not international law) of troops ordered to bomb civilians in Mohammedan countries. Economy collapses under weight of prohibitionist asset-forfeiture looting.

2012 — Recycled republican candidate Gary Johnson promises to try to overturn Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision. Gets 3 million fewer votes than he got after dropping that dumb idea.

2016 — Republican platform demands Abortion Prohibition Amendment by retasking 5th Amendment to coerce physicians instead of ban asset-forfeiture looting. Libertarian party infiltrated by Republican prohibitionists, platform edited to add faith-based straddle plank. Rights-violating republican infiltrator nearly nominated by LP. Democratic party platform seeks to make electricity as abundant and affordable in Continental United States as in Puerto Rico.  </history>

Scenario 1: Mystical prohibitionist Republicans take over LP the way the Prohibition Party assimilated the GOP in 1928, and the People’s Party swallowed the Democrats in 1896–to back a Prohibition Amendment declaring women are not “persons born” and assert that the 5th Amendment legalizes asset forfeiture looting.
Scenario 2 — Libertarian Party maintains its integrity, sheds good-faith-based imprecations and defends the individual rights of all women, as in Canada. LP advocates a constitutional amendment protecting the freedom of production and trade, replaces GOP like Whigs replaced Federalists and were themselves mowed down by Red Republicans in 1860.

The Supreme Court tried backing Prohibitionist superstition in 1920, but when that brought about a depression worse than the one from the 1894 income tax (for which the Prohibition Party incorrectly claims credit), the Court learned. The 1973 US Supreme Court decision has since assured women all over the planet that they are individuals with rights. Christian National Socialists and Mohammedan Sharia Law fanatics object to any kind of individual rights–especially if applicable to women, blacks, latinos… So what? Superstition is dwindling and has few spoiler votes to cast. Libertarians have four million spoiler votes. Our vote share looks like this measured hockey stick graph:

Which will it be? Robert Heinlein, Ayn Rand, H.L. Mencken, David Nolan, John Hospers, Toni Nathan? or the Klan, Prohibition Party, Anthony Comstock, Herbert Hoover, Joe McCarthy, Harry Anslinger, Dick Nixon and the Bush Dynasty? Books like Atlas Shrugged and 1984 aren’t exactly fiction. Their realism stems from the they way they are rooted in true life events. Worried about maniacal Lutherans and Catholics that took over Germany in an extermination pogrom against Jews, Ayn Rand penned her 1941 Letter to Innocent Fifth Columnists warning against passive acceptance of National Socialism.  This was soon after her warning in “We the Living” of the altruistic collectivism that had already turned Russia into a slave-powered extermination camp. In the “Fifth Column” story above, communists and socialists overplay their hand wreaking vengeance on fascist 5th columnists shortly before the shoe moved to the other foot, sending Marxist Workers Unification Party volunteer George Orwell fleeing for his life.

The PETITION AGAINST BEER story bares to view the economy-killing fanaticism voters rejected in favor of FDR in 1932, 1936, 1940 and 1945. In The Fountainhead, heroine Dominique Francon steers a mystical prohibitionist (Mrs Lonsdale) away from hiring architect Howard Roark, to protect his his career from ruin. In the clipping above, mystical fanatics call themselves “The Fishers of Men.” Yevgeny Zamyatin–a Russian novelist and inspiration to George Orwell and the Jefferson Starship–had died in 1937. Twenty years later Ayn Rand herself did a Hitchcock cameo in Atlas Shrugged as “the fishwife”–an individualist writer fishing for the minds of men.
