Sarajevo: anarchy is war

A 2014 movie Das Attentat, americanized in translation as Sarajevo, tells a fictionalized version of the routine murder of a government big-shot by youthful dupes enthralled with communist anarchism. Why routine? Hardly a week went by without some collectivist or other trying to murder a mercantilist, politician or royalty.  The German-language movie on Netflix and Youtube seeks to convince the viewer that The Accursed Hun plotted and paid for the assassination for the payoff in railroad stocks for a rail line through Serbia/Servia.

Omitted from mention were the two time bombs hidden under the table at which the Archduke and Duchess Sophia were to have lunch–had not an anarchist bomb and gunshots intervened. Bombs in the chimney at another nearby eatery were also left out, along with the seven being smuggled by a woman in the neighborhood.(link) But the entire region had seen nothing but violence for the past four years.

Political violence was unremarkable for the opium-farming region of Bosnia at the time, and socialists and mercantilists routinely killed each other. But the important detail was that the Chinese revolt of 1911 had blocked dumping of morphine there. This meant that unshipped opium grown in the Balkans and refined in Austro-Hungary, Germany, Prussia, France, Italy and Holland began to accumulate in a heroin and morphine glut. The Balkan States promptly attacked their competitor, Turkey, then flew at each other’s throats with 240,000 killed amid looting, rapine, arson, starvation, disease, mutilation and religious genocide until August 10, 1913.

Another unmentioned detail was the Hague Opium Convention. This had been building since 1909 in a U.S.-led effort to stop the dumping of morphine in China and other Asian and African nations formalized . The Final Protocol of the Third International Opium Conference was signed at the Hague June 25, 1914 by former U.S. Minister to China, former Philippine commissioner and then-current Consul General at Vienna, Austria, Mr. Charles Denby, and also by M.A.A. de Jongh, former inspector general, head of the opium monopoly in the Dutch Indies (at the time also a major source of cocaine).

This June signing began the ninth inning of years of signature-gathering.  At a series of meetings beginning June 15, Conference attendees resolved that the Convention would come into force between all the signatory powers as soon as existing signatory powers and enough others had ratified it. Enforcement was expected to begin by December 31st, 1914. Instead, the Austrian Archduke and consort were assassinated three days after the preliminary signings, on June 28th, 1914.

Opium producers and refiners were thus saved by the bell when “former” anarchist Gabrinovic and his buddies carried out the assassinations.  Sir Edward Gray proposed a convention on problems in the Balkans, and on Black Saturday, July 25, all European securities markets crashed. Three days later President Woodrow Wilson decreed that under the newly-enacted income tax, returns filed by corporations would be public records open to inspection by State revenue agents of States with an income tax. U.S. stock markets immediately crashed and were shut down. They did not reopen for a long time because Austria also chose that very day to attack Serbia/Servia.

Word War I is also on the list of reasons voters are not attracted by anarchists. It is among the myriad reasons adding anarcho- to libertarian or capitalist (a 1972 smear tactic) does nothing but convince voters we are a band of bomb-hurling communists, just like every other anarchist that has ever made the news in any language.

Stock Market a smoking ruin! (link)

Who is Mabel Willebrandt? She was the Joan Galt of Prohibition who gave the looters exactly what they asked for in the year Ayn Rand was married to a U.S. citizen. Willebrandt had in August and September published “The Inside of Prohibition” as a column syndicated in 21 newspapers across the USA. In it she explained how the income tax was used to arrest drug and alcohol purveyors juries would not convict for prohibition violations. She also ripped the lid off of the Jones 5 and 10 Law (5 yrs on a chain gang and a fine worth 30 pounds of gold for having liquor) passed two days before Hoover swore to fine and imprison the entire U.S. population if that’s what it took to enforce it.

So on our way to page 12 to see if Willebrandt’s column on drug and beer agents with tommy guns will be mentioned or ignored, we see this gem:

This Senator Wesley Livsey Jones was the Pacific Northwest’s White Terror. His coastwise shipping law was a prohibition law in disguise, as it restricted who could operate vessels near U.S. coasts. But the Post-Crash article says nothing about Wesley Livsey Jones’ dry fanaticism. THAT went without saying. Friends of the Administration describe Mr Youngquist as a firm believer in the dry cause. They also say his record as enforcement officer of Minnesota is excellent.
Besides enforcement of the Volstead Act, Mr Youngquist will have charge of enforcement of the internal revenue laws and the narcotic laws. He would have a much enlarged responsibility if and when the prohibition enforcement unit is transferred from the Treasury to the Justice Department.
Mr Youngquist was selected on recommendation of Attorney-General Mitchell and was among half a dozen men whom the President considered for the place. One of these is also believed to have been Hugh M Alcorn, State’s Attorney of Connecticut, but he was eliminated because of a disagreement among Republican leaders of Connecticut over his appointment.

G.A. Youngquist… named to succeed Mrs Mabel Walker Willebrandt as Assistant Atorney General in charge of prohibition inforcement, is a close friend of Andrew Volstead and S.B. Kvale, in charge of prohbition in the northwest district.
Youngquist is 44 years old.

So the nation’s top prosecutor resigned, wrote a tell-all that explained how the Administration would topple the economy to exorcise the Demon Beer. Investors saw clearly that the economy would indeed be crushed and money fled banks and brokerages. The elevation of the most ruthless and fanatical Inquisitors, beginning with Younguist, fair-haired boy of the author of the Volstead prohibition law of The Night of January Sixteenth, began.

This was America’s Gestapo directing hordes of agents with holy crosses and service pistols to break in doors, tap phones, audit tax returns, arrest physicians and indict the worlds largest yeast, glucose, sugar and chocolate corporations on felony conspiracy charges. This is what PROMPTED the flight of money BEFORE the looting, torture, murder and imprisonment bulked up beginning in November of 1929.

Commonsense Whiskey Laws

Settled science in 1913 took for a fact that whiskey–like guns and automobiles–killed people and was a major worsener of crime statistics. No Constitutional Amendment protected trade and production of intoxicants, and only smoking opium was barred as an import as an example to impress the Chinese. Suggestions were advanced that persons possessed by Satan’s whiskey should be registered by the government.

Concerns were raised, and some obstructionist pettifoggery, but gulping down the potions of Satan was not an enumerated freedom of action protected by the Bill of Rights, and legislation passed amid halelluljas to empower states to coerce common carriers and register users. The rising tide of Godliness lowered all rights and the satanic potion addict registration law joined the Bryanist avalanche of commonsense prohibition and income tax laws and Amendments popular at precisely the time a prohibitionist movement in China was creating an opium glut in Europe and Asia.

And so it was that prohibition laws reestablished their putative hegemony over personal choices while creating demand for opiates recently suppressed. This revival after the terrible setbacks suffered in the Panic of 1907, when the Pure Food and Drug Law of 1906 took effect–and wrecked the economy–was regarded as nothing short of miraculous.

When the First Opium War became inevitable in 1837, the good ship Orwell was plying the routes between China and Australia. British capital invested was drained out of the United States and poured into the preparations for the Opium War which overrode China’s prohibition against the dumping of narcotics at her ports.

Unequal treaties, signed at gunpoint, banned local cultivation and left China at the mercy of dope exports from India managed by FDR’s grandpa Warren Delano, among others. Converts to Christianity were meanwhile waging a civil war against China from within. Missionaries, admitted under the Treaty of Nanking, provided a handy pretext for military action against Chinese passive resistance. One French Catholic missionary was killed in 1856 for telling the Chinese their religion was heathen superstition, and Catholics and Protestants from opium-peddling countries took time out from killing each other to gang up on the Chinese–even as US Minister Townsend Harris was negotiating treaties with the terrified Japanese. News of renewed aggression against China reached United States newspapers on January 6, 1857. Richard Walmesley Blair, whose son Eric would adopt the pen name George Orwell, was born the following day.

The opium wars not only drained capital from These States, but the resulting glut wreaked financial havoc in India, where by May 1857, Europeans and Christian converts were being hacked to bits in those manifestations of popular displeasure referred to as the “mutiny.” By August, financial panic shuddered across America. By September there were runs on New York banks and government revenues were greatly decreased. No mention of the opium wars sparking the mutiny–or the two developments affecting American finances–appear anywhere in British or American accounts masquerading as history. Yet George Orwell’s father’s job title in India was Assistant Sub-Deputy Opium Agent, third grade. He was part of an organization that oversaw a sixth of the revenue needed to subjugate, dominate, control and overpower all of India and Pakistan at the time.

It is simply assumed that the three three things coexisted by the sheerest coincidence. In much the same manner, the Roosevelt Administration’s Pure Food and Drug Law of 1906, which affected whiskey, glucose and drugs beginning in 1907, simply coincided with the wave of prohibitionism shutting down saloons and ice houses that served beer. Likewise the Hoover Administration’s enforcement of prohibition with light beer a felony and tax liens and bank account seizures as the mechanism simply happened–according to what the historians have published these past 87 years–to coincide with the collapse of the banking system and the Great Depression.

That the Roosevelt family fortune arose out of this transportation of opium into China was probably known to TR and to Herbert Hoover. Hoover was present and under fire in China during the Boxer Rebellion, but kept quiet about his political adversary’s grandpa’s misdeeds while pretending to struggle against the morphine trade that had led to World War I. Yet his Moratorium and fanatical persecution of beer as the Avatar of Satanic Possession did more to promote Adolf Hitler to Chancellor than anything else in the world.

Only after the Republican Party’s prohibitionism, crash and depression had kept them out of the White House for two full decades, did Republican propagandists dare to leak the stories of Warren Delano’s involvement in the opium traffic. Eisenhower was elected, the United States declared a Christian nation, and the word “God” inserted into the Pledge of Allegiance, printed on coins and currency and chiseled into the walls of government buildings in Washington DC. Fear of “atheistic” communist congregants nurtured the flourishing of a powerful military industrial complex whose lobbyists–to Ike’s discomfiture–quickly dominated the United States government and ordered us into Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, Brazil, Columbia, Grenada and Panama, Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Finally the remake Bush Administration created the White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (White House OFBCI) within the Executive Office of the President. The asset-forfeiture fanaticism inevitably resulting from such a move, again crushed the economy into rubble.

With any luck the Libertarian Party will replace God’s Own Prohibitionists, and These States and a Post-Brexit Pepperland will resume their colorful careers.
