The Pure Food Law passed in 1906, three years after the Silent Panic brought on by a Chinese boycott of American products. The boycott–three years after the Boxer Rebellion failed to exclude foreign morphine and needles from prohibitionist China–got the attention of U.S. industrialists and bankers and the mixed-economy politicians they owned and controlled. British baby syrup had Poison, Morphine written on the labels, and that made them comparatively honest and straightforward by Chinese standards. The Pure Food law only became enforceable in 1907, the Year of the Panic. This was the year of a Great Awakening in China, as Draconian measures were afoot in a War on Poppies.

Theodore Roosevelt’s inherited fortune and guilt came from American participation in selling opium in China. Once promoted by assassination to the Presidency, the former Police Commissioner who had served the Comstockers and Anti-Vice societies as muscle to enforce Sunday closing of New York Saloons set out to put the Teeth into Temperance. Industrial alcohol would be excise-tax-free, provided poison were added to sicken, blind and/or kill any who drink it.

Bureau of Chemistry guru Wiley chose a pharmacopoeia definition of whiskey and wrote a Decision to make it binding.  Countering government chemist Wiley, Attorney‑General Bonaparte differed as to the Revealed definition of “whiskey” and offered his own alternatives:

The following seem to me appropriate specimen brands or labels for (1) “straight” whisky/whiskey, (2) a mixture of two or more “straight” whiskies, (3) a mixture of “straight” whisky/whiskey and ethyl alcohol, and (4) ethyl alcohol flavored and colored so as to taste, smell, and look like whisky/whiskey.
(1) Semper Idem Whisky/whiskey: A pure, straight whisky/whiskey mellowed by age.
(2) E Pluribus Unum Whisky/whiskey: A blend of pure, straight whiskies with all the merits of each.
(3) Modern Improved Whisky/whiskey: A compound of pure grain distillates, mellow and free from harmful impurities.
(4) Something Better than Whisky/whiskey: An imitation under the pure food law, free from fusel oil and other impurities.  (Other suggestions primly censored as politically unwoke.)

The gauntlet was flung, the challenge accepted, and so began one of many parallel legal battles whose first casualty would be the American banking system and economy.

Prohibition and spoiler votes

1922-3 no deposits till after nullification of dry laws

US v Sullivan, 1927, income tax looting causes slow, steady withdrawals

Prohibition–the constitutional product of the shotgun wedding of fanatical mysticism, socialist controls and eugenics theories–became reality and a nightmare all at once on the night of January 16th, 1920. Socialist candidate Eugene Debs got nearly a million votes in the showdown between the Dems (who got us into WW1) and God’s Own Prohibitionists (who insisted we stay in the War on Beer). Why? Because in 1916 Debs had said “There is too much prohibition.”

German stocks crash as heroin export income taxable

Germany exported heroin and had U.S. plants in the 1920s

When the economy collapsed after 6 months of wartime prohibition plus 1 month of Constitutional prohibition, membership in communist organizations promptly doubled. But the Kleptocracy ignored reality in 1920-1923. Prosecutor Willebrandt didn’t, and got the Supreme Court to squelch the 4th and 5th Amendments and declare evidence from tax returns admissible for prohibition and evasion liability in mid-May of 1927. German stocks immediately went sour. Neither entrenched party published a repeal or modification plank, and in 1928, Dry Hope Hoover beat Whiskey Al Smith 5 to 1. The small looter parties were obviously no help to freedom–their platforms called for coercion.

The Increased Penalties Act foisted onto Hoover destroyed the economy when ex-prosecutor Willebrandt (yes, the same lady) explained in over 20 nationally syndicated papers how income tax asset forfeiture would be used to enforce Prohibition laws. Federal Reserve bank balances also began dropping as soon as Willebrandt got the Supreme Court to scrap the Bill of Rights and use the income tax–copied from Karl’s Manifesto of 1848–to enforce prohibition.

No surprise here. The addition of that same communist manifesto plank to a tariff bill in 1894–in violation of the Constitutional prohibition of capitation taxes–so completely destroyed the economy that the Supreme Court had to strike it down the following year in order to have banks at which to cash their own paychecks. When was the last time you saw or hear tell of this partially concealed newspaper story?

Druggan, Lake Indicted by U.S. as Tax Dodgers 14MAR1928–Markets panic

Moreover, the income-tax-as-bludgeon decision in US v Sullivan immediately coincided with a German bourse crash, while French stock exchanges also began falling for years to come. Markets went haywire when Druggan and Lake were grabbed by Internal Revenuers mid-March, 1928. The Liberal Party formed in 1930, drew up a wet plank which the Dems accepted with tears of gratitude, then won five consecutive elections while battling the National Socialist government Hoover’s 1931 Moratorium foisted onto Germany.

The outcome of that election was FDR beat Dry Hope Hoover 11 to 1, but the collapsing economy–officially unexplained–had opened the floodgates increasing communist party growth in These United States by a factor of ten by the time Ayn Rand formulated the Non-Aggression Agreement.

Only by keeping the American people confused about Prohibition and The Crash have the subsidized media managed to keep voters mesmerized by subsidized Republicans who deny being fascist and subsidized Democrats who deny being communist. Then again, that’s what the Nixon law of 1971 pays them to do. Understanding how these looters wreck your retirement savings, then voting Libertarian to let them know the jig is up; that’s the road to recovery. Doing the right thing–using your leveraged LP spoiler vote to change bad laws–is winning. It’s your decision.

Commonsense Whiskey Laws

Settled science in 1913 took for a fact that whiskey–like guns and automobiles–killed people and was a major worsener of crime statistics. No Constitutional Amendment protected trade and production of intoxicants, and only smoking opium was barred as an import as an example to impress the Chinese. Suggestions were advanced that persons possessed by Satan’s whiskey should be registered by the government.

The Scarlet Letter of Drink!

Drink owner registration

Concerns were raised, and some obstructionist pettifoggery, but gulping down the potions of Satan was not an enumerated freedom of action protected by the Bill of Rights, and legislation passed amid halelluljas to empower states to coerce common carriers and register users. The rising tide of Godliness lowered all rights and the satanic potion addict registration law joined the Bryanist avalanche of commonsense prohibition and income tax laws and Amendments popular at precisely the time a prohibitionist movement in China was creating an opium glut in Europe and Asia.

Yellow stars and tattooed forearms

And so it was that prohibition laws reestablished their putative hegemony over personal choices while creating demand for opiates recently suppressed. This revival after the terrible setbacks suffered in the Panic of 1907, when the Pure Food and Drug Law of 1906 took effect–and wrecked the economy–was regarded as nothing short of miraculous.

Non-partisan Parasitism

Mislabel, then defraud!

Censoring Libertarian candidates and platforms breeds parasitism

Since 1972 the number of unproductive hands on Federal government payroll has faltered, then decreased. Formation of the Libertarian Party–even when crippled by Nixon anti-libertarian election subsidies–blocked that avenue of expansion. LIB for Libertarian now appears on ballots in all 50 states.

But local elections, completely partisan in former decades, now resort to disguising the party platforms on which candidates are running. That this is papered over with a bunch of sanctimonious guff about being “non-partisan” hints at how ashamed predatory kleptocracy has become about its depredations.  Because small minds discuss people, they are the more vulnerable to those eager to avoid discussion of ideas.

Freedom, Democracy and Investment

Ask anyone what they voted for, and the conceptually-challenged invariably respond with some grinning politician. Even folks who expect to benefit along with the grinning politician–by increased transfer payments, diminished taxes, or the oppression of some hated minority–will never admit to a personal stake in the outcome. Voting for someone else is altruism. Voting for one’s own interests is selfishness.

But just ask anyone what they invested in, and the answer is completely different. Nobody invests in George Soros, Charles Schwab or Bernie Madoff, but rather, uranium futures, mortgage debt, emerging markets or something else they expect will gain value faster than governments print money.  Your valuable money is clearly something you invest, so why not invest your valuable vote in something that will eventually change the laws to your own benefit?

Amoral yet technically sophisticated voters voted for the largest political party not intent on banning reliable electricity. That party’s candidate won. A comparison of the Dem and GOP platforms shows that energy policy was the only clear difference between the two.  Democratic promises to repeal the Second Amendment and enact  Kristallnacht gun laws, like Republican bragadoccio vowing to repeal the Fourteenth Amendment and restore coathanger abortions, can safely be ignored. Both parties want the cops to continue shooting kids in the back over herbs and potions. Both want to bomb and deport foreigners, invade and spy on everyone. The electrical power ban based on pseudoscience–a plank generated by the CPUSA and Green Party prior to the Y2k election–was the only real platform difference.

A ban CO2 plank imported from tiny splinter parties sufficed first to weaken (in 2012), then to topple the ruling Democratic party. This is all the more impressive since the GOP had in 2007 clearly crashed the US economy and weakened the rest of the world’s economy. This they had already accomplished in 1929 and 1987  by enacting and exporting superstitious prohibition policies lifted from the likes of the Prohibition, Tea and Ku-klux Consta2shun parties. The lesson is that rent-seeking “major” parties seek to neutralize adverse spoiler votes by co-opting the planks of small parties. You did not read all 70 thousand words of the Dem and GO-Pee platforms? Lobbyists, government employee union goons, Congressmen and Senators read every page carefully.

The Populist party got the communist income tax into federal statutes in 1894 with a lousy 9% of the 1892 vote. Democratic Party adoption of that same plank–copied from the People’s Party–enacted the Income Tax Amendment in less than a decade. The Socialist party got its entire 1928 platform written into law by steadfast voting. A decade earlier, the Prohibition party turned These United States into an unemployed penal institution by using its 1.4% of the vote to amend the Constitution and make beer a felony. Freedom was eroded and crippled through leveraged voting by a tiny minority.

So why not eliminate the insincere middlemen and vote for your own freedom, just as you invest in your own financial future? Your libertarian vote will immediately gain 6 to 36 times as much vote-changing impact as a vote thrown away on the kleptocracy. Think about it. THAT’s leverage no panhandling pressure group can offer, and it costs you less than your spare change.

Settled Pseudoscience

settledpseudoscience1890

Page 15 of The Church Guardian

Religious truth was in 1890 the same as it is today. Nowadays, its advocates call it “science.” Of course there is disagreement among folks who have rejected reason. Some of them point to “Creation Science” as proof that policemen who–in good faith–believe they detected the odor of a burning bush, should shoot unarmed teenagers and not be liable to criminal charges. It provided the moral basis for the President of These United States to go on the public record advocating the death sentence in 1989 for anyone dealing in agricultural products likely to lower the price of liquor or coffee–with their executioners given immunity. Others are congregants of climate science.

“Climate Science” is a religious truth according to which the entire global population should be forcibly subjected to health hazards in the form of blackouts, brownouts, and reduced access to the very energy that enables people to work for a living. In actuarial math, health hazards are anything that reduces the life expectancy of a population. This rests on the observation that pandemics and power outages alike cause suffering and death.

What we observe today is the merger of two distinct and mutually antagonistic pseudoscientific religions onto one, exactly as occurred in National Socialist Germany in 1933. Religious conservatives declared Germany a Christian nation dedicated to the common good, not personal profit. They wanted the Political State to provide pensions and censor not only fake news but also anything offensive to their ethical and moral feelings. Conservatives emphatically demanded “public health through protection of mother and child,” just like today, with altruist indoctrination a part of government education in Christian Germany.

National Socialists also demanded regulation of all professions, especially journalism–translations of foreign newspapers were banned, under penalties including deportation, and foreigners, especially if selfish–were deported. Asset-forfeiture laws were enacted in support of Germany’s War On Bad Things so that entire companies could be readily confiscated.

All of these things were published by Adolf Hitler in 1920, and read by German voters, some 99% of whom were Christians, 2/3 Protestant and 1/3 Catholic. Less than one percent were Jewish. But though Hitler’s party was repeatedly elected in a landslide by Protestant and Catholic voters for a dozen years, many who claim to speak for Christianity and for Socialism, deny that Hitler and his allies were Christian or Socialist. They evade mention of speeches, writings, photographs and artifacts to the contrary. Can you imagine an atheist, mohammedan or pagan being elected president of These United States today? Nor could German voters in 1928, 1932 or 1933-45. That political science was as settled then as it is today.

narcotic syrup

Page 16 of the Church Guardian, “Advice to Mothers”

And like today, the money behind the propaganda was put up by investors with a stake in the market. Banning alcohol increased demand for other stupefying drugs, such as opium. This ad for Mrs. Winslow’s Soothing Syrup is from the next page of the Church Guardian. The syrup contained morphine, which competed for adult market share with beer, wine and spirits.

Behind every prohibition law directing the initiation of deadly force in violation of individual rights you will find hidden persuaders. All such laws are an offer to kill any number of people in order to force the survivors to obey market-distorting orders lobbyists hire politicians to enact. Lobbyists who want to ban coal or hemp are cut from exactly the same ideological cloth.
