Yes, I am talking about the Financial Action Task Force currently tasked with looking into corruption in not-really-communist China. And guess what… see those twin troughs just to the left of February 19? The high point just before the fall-where the slope goes from increasing to decreasing–coincides reasonably with issuance of a Swiss report on how Swiss banks have agreed to FATF-approved Knife Your Customer and similar policies. The report was released, I’d wager, on or about February 17, 2020, judging from the stock prices graph. The FATF is very careful to avoid exact dates unless there are no nearby stock gyrations.(link) 

FATF reports and such are reportedly released in Month, Year, and surrounded with a smokescreen of obfuscating acronyms. The MER on Switzerland was adopted in October 2016 and at the urging of AML/CFT advisors went through R.2 through R.21 with threshold gaps triggering due diligence requirement adjustments and execution of operations in cases of suspicion. Since the same Swiss whose papers debated U.S. newspapers about wholesaling heroin in February of 1929 are today deemed too naíve to write their own laws, the FATF hands elected representatives AMLAs to sign and pass, and scolding CDBs (a looter code of ethical robbery).(link)

FATF does admit that an OBA-FINMA became enforceable with guns on January 1, 2020, and for the ten-thousandth time dins its message that anyone who would rather not be robbed by tax collectors can only be so anti-social if actually practicing or at least abetting the financing of religious terrorists flying hijacked planes into tall buildings in New York.(link) Everywhere you look, logical disjunction is resorted to to deliver this point subliminally. Any declarative statement, even “two plus two makes four” is still true after some dishonest skunk tacks on a disjunction. THERE WAS A TIME WHEN YOU COULDN’T just say no to violent aggression. In the 1920s mystical fanatics sought to pressure and intimidate voters into having someone point guns at people over beer or plant leaf soakings. But increased penalties soon crashed the economy, and until 1931 there was no way to vote no on having people robbed and shot. If you voted Democratic, that was a vote for low tariffs, but also for debased currency and white supremacist racial collectivism. If you voted Republican, that was a vote for the gold standard, but also for shooting and robbing the peaceful, high excise and income taxes, and helping Germany spend money on armaments rather than pay reparations for damages wrought during The Great War. There were communist-socialist infiltrators and even native brainwashees, of course, offering more prohibition and tax laws and amendments, but nobody offering freedom from coercion.(link)

It was the Liberal Party platform of 1931 that tackled the Eighteenth Amendment head-on and demanded it be repealed along with the Volstead Act, Blue Laws and the ban on Sunday baseball games.(link) Liberals sought to make divorce safe and legal, and were absolutely opposed to Ku-Klux collectivism and Comstock laws. And guess what? All of the people’s states, caudillo juntas and banana republics have constitutions up to ten times as wordy as the U.S. Constitution. People face danger and expense in order to flee those countries and try to enter These United States, not each other’s countries. Is this coincidence? Is the number of words or pages in a country’s Constitution a negative indicator for individual freedom and prosperity?

Republicans and their Democratic abettors pretended the 1920-22 Crash and Depression were happenstance—nothing whatsoever to do with a Constitutional Amendment ending the freedom of trade and production. Those closest to the public–smugglers and bootleggers–simply ignored the dry laws, and paid cops, agents, prosecutors, inspectors and judges to help them ignore them. Freedom from coercion was bought and sold like any other commodity in a mixed-economy market.

Realists understood perfectly that coercive meddling had precipitated the Crash and plunged the nation into a Depression at the onset of Constitutional Prohibition. And sure enough, nullification of the dry looters’ laws enabled the economy to recover in fairly short order. But God’s Own Prohibitionists were far from pleased. The Great Unwashed was treating them with the sort of irreverence Andrew Jackson had displayed toward the Supreme Court’s Chief Justice: “Now let’s see him enforce it.”

Battalions of brutes with service pistols and political will could, they imagined, secure “real” prohibition enforcement. Sheer murderous mobilization had, after all, served to Hooverize and throttle the Accursed Hun in 1918, had it not? So the Jones Five and Ten Law was handed to Herbert Hoover to wield as bludgeon, bayonet and blackjack. Former prosecutor Willebrandt published the complete arsenal of government weaponization in a book-length column in August and September in some 2 dozen papers, and the economy went from recovering to ruined in 12 weeks.

Suddenly, amid the wreckage of the Crash, Senator Jones Law Jones–the very incarnation of the Methodist White Terror–was running the G.O.P.  Senator Robinson, remanded to the Sahara of the Bozarts, was replaced at the Dem helm by impecunious-immigrant-turned-gold-magnate Walsh. Walsh was father of Evalyn “Hope Diamond” Walsh McLean, a hard-drinking morphine addict once best friends with the Late President Warren Harding, and married to Edward McLean, newspaper magnate nearly arrested for lying to protect a former cabinet officer in the Teapot Dome.

Events in 1987 followed the same pattern. Mystical prohibitionism ramped up until the economy crashed in 1987, then retrenched with increasing fanaticism until voters had no choice but to throw the bastards out.

A weary House Speaker Jim Wright predicted Thursday night that both houses would approve the leaders’ “final agreement” on the drug bill today, but cautioned that the obscenity language could not be “nailed down” until lawmakers reviewed it. The bill is the major legislation keeping Congress in session.
After marathon meetings by rank-and-file negotiators, Wright along with the majority and minority leaders of both houses – gathered to tackle the unresolved issues Thursday night.
The thorniest among them proved to be Senate-passed language to give the federal government broad new powers to combat obscenity.
Earlier in the day, rank-and-file lawmakers stripped the language from the drug bill after liberals insisted the government’s powers would be too broad.
“We were threatened with a revolt” by conservatives, said right, who admitted he began envisioning an embarrassing floor fight that would destroy his effort to unite liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, behind the bill that could help all incumbents.
A coalition of conservative groups began an intense last-ditch telephone campaign to win inclusion of the anti-obscenity provisions, said Diane quarter main, legislative affairs director of the Liberty Federation, formerly the Moral Majority.
The bill – which would authorize some $2.5 billion in new anti-drug money, is an ambitious attempt to deal with all aspects of the drug problem, including law enforcement, treatment, rehabilitation, education and help for authorities in drug-producing countries.
New initiatives would include up to $10,000 in civil fines for those caught with personal use amounts of drugs; a federal death penalty for killers in drug -related crimes; and denial of some federal benefits to convicted drug offenders, including users.
A number of lawmakers cautioned the drug bill would be meaningless without new financing, and the House Appropriations Committee took quick action Thursday.
The panel approved $500 million in new spending for the drug bill, an amount that would pay for barely a third of the estimated $1.4 billion first-year costs of the legislation. The final cost is expected to be about $2.5 billion if the multi-year measure is fully financed. The $500 million includes: $242 million for treatment, prevention and education; $179 million for new agents and equipment for federal law enforcement agencies; $42 million for the federal courts; $25 million for the Coast Guard; and the rest for programs of the departments of State and agriculture, and the FDA.
A combined bill to combat adult obscenity and child pornography had passed the Senate 97-0 previously, and was added to the drug bill when the House refused to take action. The child pornography language was approved by the drug bill negotiators.
The obscenity language passed by the Senate would allow the federal government to seize property used to commit or promote and obscenity offense; and authorize the government to seek civil fines against those producing, transporting or receiving obscene materials. Wright said the leadership agreed to target only major dealers or producers of obscene materials who were “knowingly engaged over a long period of time.” He said the language was not aimed at the bookstore owner who may have a single volume judged to be obscene.
He called the language “constitutionally respectable and acceptable.”
Lawmakers opted to accept portions of House and Senate language on a program to deny federal benefits to convicted drug offenders, including those convicted of possession.
Benefits such as federal public housing, grants, contracts, loans, mortgage guarantees, and some forms of veterans’ aid could be lost to drug offenders. Judges would have discretion, however, on whether to impose the penalty after conviction.
the president would submit a report on the program to Congress next May, allowing lawmakers to reconsider the proposal. No one could be denied benefits before next September. Social Security, Medicare, welfare benefits and some other veterans’ aid programs would be exempted even after September.
Negotiators agreed that if someone is killed during a federal drug felony, the federal death penalty could apply if: the killer was engaged in a continuing criminal enterprise; was trafficking in major amounts of cocaine, heroin or other drugs; intentionally gave an order that resulted in a killing; or killed a police officer.
In other key decisions, negotiators:
– agreed to create a “drug czar” in the president’s Cabinet, to coordinate national drug policy. The official would develop plans for every phase of the drug war, share with relevant Cabinet heads the authority to transfer personnel, and have the right to object when he believes drug funding is inadequate or misdirected.
Dropped a house provision that would’ve permitted introduction in federal court of evidence seized illegally, but in “good faith,” even in warrantless searches.
Accepted Senate language on child pornography, including a 20-year-to-life prison term for anyone convicted of facilitating use of a child for producing sexually explicit materials.
Gave the Justice Department nine months to develop a system for gun dealers to check whether purchasers are convicted felons.
Agreed that records of those punished by civil fines would be expunged automatically after a period of time.
– resolved that states initially would have to contribute 25% of the cost of federal grants for anti-drug crime programs. – agreed to restore to US attorneys the ability to prosecute corrupt public officials under the theory that they deprived Americans of honest government services. A Supreme Court ruling in June 1987 had prevented such prosecutions.

– Decided to drop proposals for random drug testing of transportation workers.

Sullum’s Drug Debate

Killing is the whole point of sending men with guns to kick down doors, fire on vessels and riddle automobiles with bullet-holes!

Watching Nick Sarwark get bushwhacked by the debating tactics of a libertarian-impersonating anarchist made for a sense of foreboding over Jacob Sullum debating a prohibitionist. The opening argument–that violent narcs murder and maim people–could have been copied from the 46-year-old news clipping above. (link) Sullum recited almost identical stories of brutal mayhem against bystanders and even brought up the deliberate mass-poisoning of populations by adding wood alcohol to ethanol–of which practice God’s Own Prohibitionist (a novelist and pseudoscience hack) feigned ignorance, even surprise.

National Socialist–Soviet Socialist Pact, (August 23, 1939)–Paris “Agreement” November 4, 2016… a comparison

The National Socialist–Soviet Socialist pact is also called the Hitler-Stalin Pact, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, the Nazi–Soviet Pact and the German–Soviet Non-aggression Pact and Russo-German Pact.** In much the way Global Cooling morphed into Anthropomorphic Global Warming, then (to cover all bases) Climate Change (which was everywhere long before mankind).  All of this is old hat. Externally, the socialist “non-aggression” treaty was short and flowery, with phrases like:

“In any event both Governments will resolve this (Poland) question by means of a friendly agreement.”

and

“Should disputes or conflicts arise between the High Contracting Parties over problems of one kind or another, both parties shall settle these disputes or conflicts exclusively through friendly exchange of opinion or, if necessary, through the establishment of arbitration commissions.”

The treaty closed with a nondisclosure agreement that masked the existence of additional deals, but the thing was outwardly cute and fuzzy, as one might expect from neighboring altruistic People’s States. The fact remained that the preceding war had been largely a dispute over heroin markets in which to sell Papaver somniferum products grown in the Balkan States. Those markets and competition still existed in 1939.  The secret additional deals amounted to a divvying-up of the opium-producing Balkan States.

When the Democratic Party gained power after the George Waffen Bush asset-forfeiture crash and depression, it preserved existing domestic prohibition, high-taxes, asset forfeiture looting and other victimless “crime” legislation. However, stung by the Y2K election results in which the Green Party weighed in with enough spoiler votes to block Democrats from jobs, boodle and pelf, the Democratic platform committee hewed as close to the Republican line as possible–except for the part about trying to ban reliable power generation.

Bans on reliable power generation have been enacted in the People’s State of Australia (which replaced voluntary democracy with mandatory voting), and the Democratic People’s Republic of Germany. In both cases, utility bills skyrocketed and rolling blackouts and brownouts became familiar features of the environment. These provide pretexts for additional regulatory meddling. The result of curtailment of power generation anywhere is a net increase in the mortality rate in those places–in other words, a health hazard.

This latest Paris pact aimed at lowering life expectancy is couched in the most florid prose imaginable:

Ayn Rand balks British

Atlas & the Fountainhead in Portuguese

Most Brits simply cannot Grok Ayn Rand. This is hardly surprising when you consider that Atlas Shrugged freezes the thinking of most Americans conditioned by government schools and teevee…  

Just as a host makes parasite survival possible, so a large political party can artificially extend the life of a parasitical cult or ideology. History is full of such things. The Whigs with their Tariff of Abominations permanently alienated the Colonial South, represented by The Slaveholding Democracy.

High-tariff politicians were thenceforth centered in open iron gunsights by Democratic partisans of the day. Abolitionists deserted the Whigs as ineffective wimps. Karl Marx’ altruistic communist party in Germany seized upon “graduated income tax” as a source of someone else’s substance in the midst of a depression wrought by disruption of the opium trade in China and related Indian mutinies. Because this verifiable explanation of the Great Depression of the USA in what the Disraeli called the  “hungry forties” is avoided in government schools or detoured by exaggeration of the Irish potato famine, a digression is in order.

Britain had become a colonial parasite on primitive China and India both. Defeated by the US in the wars of Independence and 1812, Cornwallis was transferred to India and the loose agglomeration of Hindu and Moslem tribes whipped into agricultural production of opium and indigo, much like the American South had been transformed by the lash into colonial cotton plantations under British rule. After China in 1837 expelled the opium traders, capital was withdrawn from US municipal bonds and other securities and poured into the opium wars. That and a bad winter, possibly exacerbated by fallout from an Icelandic volcano, made Europe fertile soil for a looter kleptocracy. Communism and socialism sounded better than looter kleptocracy and so those party denominations were ingrained by repetition.

Britain’s chief concern in the Gilded Era was the expansion of chemical slavery by exportation of morphine–an ambition lustily shared by France, Prussia, Germany and Austro-Hungary (and to a lesser extent Switzerland and Holland). But the dumping of addictive narcotics in China again broke down after the revolution of 1911 made it possible for the Chinese republic to again ban poppy drugs. In this China was abetted by the guilt-ridden Roosevelt, Taft and Wilson Administrations, through Pure Food and Drug laws and the Hague Opium Agreements detrimental to the traffic. German and Austrian morphine came from Balkan opium. As prices collapsed in the wake of interruption of the China dumping, war broke out in the region and escalated into WWI.

Britain’s most pressing concern after the Great War was how to squirm out of repaying the loans taken from American banks to throttle the Accursed Hun. The entire interwar period was one of renewed imperial parasitism on primitive colonies–and on the foolish creditors of those same morphine exporters who went to war in 1914 to evade the Hague Opium accord. This was the era in which Ayna Rosenbaum was educated in Russia, fled communism to These States in 1926, and witnessed the Crash and Depression wrought by a combination of American alcohol prohibition, prosecution of sugar and yeast companies under tax and conspiracy laws, and the squirming of European Pharmacy metropolises to evade controls on addictive poppy drugs and skip out on loan repayment and reparations collections.

To the Americans, WWI became inconvenient when Germany exported communism to Russia and that ideology toppled the Russian Empire. To save their loans, American bankers and industrialists had the Congress conscript youngsters to turn the fortunes of war in favor of the drug-peddling debtors whose notes they held.

President Warren Gamaliel Harding, a hard-drinking, drug-taking philanderer was the women voters’ choice in 1920. His exploits, retold by his love-child’s mom Nan Britton, coupled with the adventures of “missing” Los Angeles evangelist Aimee Semple McPherson, are revived in unobtrusive background splendor in the pages of Atlas Shrugged. The novel was written by that same Russian immigrant writing under her Ayn Rand pseudonym. Herbert Hoover, HL Mencken and other colorful characters are mirrored in the cast.

The history of the British Empire of that day is by contrast a sordid set of setbacks in colonial parasitism of Egypt, India, Iran, Burma… awash in cheap opium. Celebrity appearances are provided by Mahatma Gandhi (preaching non-initiation of force) and Miss Brenda Dean, debutante of London drug party scandals. George Orwell’s writings record Burmese misery and the dreary preoccupation of looter populists exploiting the baffled hunger of illiterate proletarians to curry favor with British Fascists or communist-infiltrated Labour cliques.

So OF COURSE the familiar media story chords exploited by Ayn Rand differ completely from the social milieu prevailing in the British Isles during the interwar period that framed the backdrop to Atlas Shrugged–except, perhaps, in the town of Starnesville. British intellectuals are oblivious of or baffled by the struggles of 1930 American Liberal Party liberals (not looters) against totalitarian prohibitionists. And prohibitionists are the very creatures the pub-drinking British themselves struggled against–to keep pubs open and the better to compete in narcotics export markets with France, Switzerland and Germany.

Small wonder they never brag about these things, but it goes a long way toward explaining the bovine incomprehension of Britishers confronted with American libertarian values. Like our Liberal Party forbears of 1930, American Libertarians apply the power of spoiler votes as a lever to pry parasitical hangers-on from the major parties. The Republican party is threatened by potential bleeding off of spoiler votes by declining remnants of three religious fanatic parties concerned with prohibiting sex and drugs. The Democratic party–ever the party of slavery–relies on the declining remnants of communism. The Green Party and CPUSA are reliable purveyors of “global warming” hobgoblins as justification for government suppression of industrial production in Western mixed economies. Their spoiler votes are still a dying bindweed coiling about the ankles of the Democratic Party. Do not despair… Libertarian spoiler votes increased 328% in the 2015 election, and these votes pack law-changing clout.

The threat to civilization today is religious fanaticism as pushed by the Republicans, Islamic berserker-states, communist collectivists, papal states and ku-klux entities committed to the coercion of females against their will. The libertarian party alone is for the time being relatively free of those parasites. Its platform therefore contains no promises to have the police gun down children, confiscate innocent assets, throttle industrial access to energy and purchase votes with transfer payments from producers to non-producers.
