Distributors of Nazi “Treason” Propaganda Face Death Penalty – By United Press – BERLIN, October 5 – The Nazi government, ending by a single cabinet decree the freedom of the German press, simultaneously today invoked the death penalty to halt the tremendous volume of anti-Nazi propaganda being “bootlegged” into the country.
By approving the first section of the new press law, the cabinet adopted the Nazi policy that the press, newspapers and magazines, must become an instrument of national unity, it’s pulse beating with that of the government. By a separate and significant decree, it ruled that the death penalty, or alternatively 15 years’ imprisonment, should be imposed on anyone who imported or disseminated periodicals classed as treasonable. The joint effect was to ensure that only Nazi views should be read by the public.
