Teddy Roosevelt and Trump

Bullies
Teddy and the Kaiser, sharers of all values save one. (link)

Grateful Republicans named wealthy donor Teddy Roosevelt New York’s Police Commissioner, but soon regretted it. Even before the Comstock years, prohibition cranks exploited every niche into which the entering wedge of deadly compulsion could be driven. The Sunday closing of saloons had been enacted by Bryanist Dems of the People’s Party persuasion allied with Prohibition Party regulars back when there was overlap. Tammany Dems used it as a stick to selectively close down saloons whose owners were uncooperative. But Roosevelt saw this as THE law of the land, to be enforced at all hazards. Soon everyone–from the Tammany bosses down to street urchin entrepreneurs rushing growlers of beer from bucketshops to all and sundry–hated his guts.

Christened Teedy Rosenfeld by fictional bartender Mr Dooley, Roosevelt remained a clueless but opinionated toff, cashfully blundering into political posts and spouting homilies. Elevated to the presidency by a communist anarchist assassin, Roosevelt became a fountain of instructions on the White Woman’s burden and the eugenic wisdom of the times.(link) Drawn dryward in its efforts to lure away Prohibition Party spoiler votes, the GOP became less and less Germanic toward tippling, sniffing of catarrh cures and high-volume dumping of refined opiates on primitive colonial peoples with imperfect regard to protectionist bounds and gentlemen’s agreements. America responded by poisoning industrial alcohol with methanol and wrecking the economy with a “Pure” Drug and Food law to impress Chinese emperor-minions into calling off the boycott of our goods. Tammany Democrats and liberal republicans stung by the Panic of 1907 were appalled by the prospect of that autocratic madman mounting another attack on “predatory men of wealth.”

Tammany Senator Thomas F Grady of New York in October 1907 moaned “I fear he will run.”–this despite TRs throwaway statement of 1904 that he would not run again. Grady considered Roosevelt unbeatable.(link) TR had enraged Filipinos into armed insurrection, promised women unending Comstockist enslavement, betrayed Colombia, encouraged Chinese insurrectionists, angered the Japanese, horrified free marketeers, kept blacks subservient and put their sons in uniform and guns as our colonial big stick. Worst of all, he’d pulled pelf, boodle, graft and government jobs away from the Democrats! Dems would pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to keep Roosevelt from accepting the Republican nomination. A way was found to snub the hunter of game and elect his pal and buddy Taft. Teddy was afterward drawn into running on a Fabian-style progressive ticket pushing toothy ideas that sounded wonderful to Germans then and Republicans now.

The Progressive “Bull Moose” outfit darkly disavowed the corrupt interests, the invisible deep state in its unholy alliance, and sought to forge a new power to give effect to their WILL in laws and institutions. It promised to amend the constitution as needed, and even hinted at letting women vote–but NOT read or write anything about birth control, much less work nights. Social and industrial justice were promised and the “system of social insurance” with “equitable retirement law”actually found its way into Hitler’s socialist platform in 1920. Quarantine could be racially interpreted, uppity trusts might be crushed underfoot and currency should be fully nationalized. Even the first of the Jones laws got a plug in, whereas tariffs would be protective, but not excessively so, especially since an income tax straight out of Karl Marx would obviate the need. Limitation treaties were blessed and good, nevermind the Second Amendment, and stock market crashes, banking panics and lengthy recessions were the result–not of government prohibitions on production and trade–but stock-market swindlers! Drug and liquor bans were pointedly unmentioned as not conducive to the success of the dry democratic Governor critical of Atlantic City laissez-faire. The trick worked, republicans split into fanatical versus practical factions and Woodrow Wilson took office, wielded the communist income tax, throttled the accursed Hun and vetoed the prohibition law.

Today’s Dems face a similar challenge. The Klan, formerly theirs, now backs Trump, alongside predatory prohibitionist agencies and televangelist girl bulliers. The Alabama Anschluss Libertarian Party has become the likely tool of MAGA Trumpanzees for a competing split from less godly RINO republicans. As a sort of anarco-Fabian party they could run a revenge campaign to punish deserters. Democrats can bet Joe Biden won’t suddenly freeze up like his Anti-Drug-Abuse-Law buddy Mitch, or drop dead like Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg–who refused to retire at 87 and got replaced by Mutterkreuz Mom. Drawing to an inside straight has worked in the past–just NOT very often.

…a choice between two admittedly regrettable yet clearly distinguishable post-election scenarios

One candidate has offered to save the democrats from senile dementia and Donald Trump. Robert Kennedy Jr has declared his willingness to sign a bill decriminalizing all Grateful Dead and Woodstock Nation psychedelics.(link) Hillary Clinton broke wind in the general direction of any such suggestion and was soundly beaten thanks to 4 million pro-choice, pro-repeal Libertarian votes rendering a new deal in 13 States. He has also played the Bull Moose card and Democrats must now make a choice. I am not endorsing RFK Jr and would never vote for his or any other looter party. But Americans face a choice between two admittedly regrettable yet clearly distinguishable post-election scenarios: one where you got a functional Democratic president whose party wants to outlaw gasoline, coal and nuclear electricity, and the other where you got that puppet of televangelist zealots who want to bring back economy-wrecking Hoover-Anslinger Prohibition and through Comstockism outlaw ALL birth control and increase the death rate among pregnant women.

Neutralizing Libertarians

Libertarian votes in Congressional Elections

The whole point of the Libertarian Party is to put practical pressure on both Kleptocracy parties to change their platforms and repeal dishonest laws.(link) Both entrenched factions value votes and define victory as their politicians elected–especially to Congress, but Libertarians define victory differently.(link) By offering a short, sensible plank designed to repeal cruel and violent laws, Libertarian party candidates draw votes away from BOTH factions.(link) Libertarian voters are thereby empowered make looter candidates lose at a leveraged rate far in excess of their numbers precisely by exploiting the greed, power-lust and hatred these factions nurse against each other.(link) THAT gets their attention way better than bought opinion polls and gives them an incentive to repeal bad laws–an incentive that cannot be ignored.(link)

So libertarians GET that the deck is stacked, and agree that the purported counts are crooked (as the losing looters invariably assert). Claiming that we will win ourselves a seat in Congress would at this time affront ordinary intelligence.(link) But explaining that we offer voters the most effective way to get results in the form of lower taxes, less conscription, fewer doors kicked in and fewer people robbed and shot drums up votes AND gives back something worthwhile in return.(link)

I stumbled upon these connections back in February 2007, and the basic explanation of how small parties in the past altered the Constitution with 2% of the votes case was aired by the Travis County Libertarian program Live and Let Live.(link with audio file) The problem is that the whole thing requires a terse and effective platform such as we had in 1972.(link)

The looter parties understand perfectly how our spoiler votes force them to abandon cruel and dishonest laws, so those parties infiltrate competitors. They got an anarchist to amend the migration plank to invite uninspected entry by terrorists.(link) A different communist anarchist was added to the 2020 ticket and rejected by all sane voters.(link) Finally, a large gang of Christian National Socialist infiltrators backed by the Alternative fur Deutschland-funded von Mises Foundation in Alabama took over the LP in a Nazi-style Anschluss, deleted our rejection of bigotry and scrapped what planks remained in defense of individual rights for women.(link) The result of all these professionally-orchestrated post-Trumpian machinations is clearly visible in the trendline showing our votes dropping at a 25-degree angle over the past four Congressional elections.

Good reading: The Secret Agent is an exceptionally good book by Joseph Conrad available in Kindle and audiobook formats. (link) The main anarchist in The Secret Agent is “The Professor” as in Assault from the Ivory Tower. The guy is the perfect archetype identical to all the anarcommies that ever infiltrated the LP. He carries explosives so that if a cop lays a hand on him, he is committed to blowing up “yourself and all aboard”–as Cheech and Chong put it in their Kamikaze instructions skit. The entire book is a well-earned literary classic, with gorgeous depth and luxurious detail inside the heads of all the pertinent actors–including all manner of infiltrators. The thing is iconoclastic drama rather than glossy adventure, but the anarchist takeaway is in my view its most rewarding aspect.

Killers with Badges, 1929

First Responder murderers acquitted

Gunfire-riddled auto in which Henry Virkula was murdered by ICE agents in 1929

Henry Virkula was out for a drive with his wife and kids when customs agents leapt out of the bushes and riddled their flivver with buckshot the night of June 8, 1929. This was during Dry Hope Herbert Hoover’s Administration under the Five and Ten law making beer a chain-gang felony 2 days before his Inauguration. Like today, the Methodist Board of Temperance, Prohibition and Other People’s Morals bellowed that the killing was “justified” under the eugenicist tenets of Positive Christianity. Dry Killers was the exact technical term used by citizens and newspapermen alike.

Army of God, just following orders

Christian National Socialists exulted in dry killer antics

First Responders were, as always, justified in murder, according to the experts on what Jesus would have done:

“The second case was that of the De King killing in Aurora, Illinois.  That seemed perfectly horrible until the facts were ascertained and broadcast.  Now the most intelligent people know what happened and see considerable significance in the fact that the grand jury refused to indict the officer involved.  (…) On the Rouse case, the Board said Officer Rouse “killed a rum-runner in the act of committing two felonies,” adding: “The rum-runner had made an assault upon him by the use of poisonous gases produced by a smoke-screen device.  Officer Rouse was completely exonerated by the grand jury.  (…) (LA Examiner 6/17/1929)

Does this sound like a Minnesota cop union mouthpiece waving an “official” medical examiner’s report?(link

There were no throwdown guns, throwdown beer or throwdown medical examiner documendacities or rumors of active warrants to get overeager ambush murderers off the hook. In fact, the International Falls City Council promptly gave notice to Republican President Herbert Hoover on 18JUN1929:

Dear Mr. President: The International Falls City Council voted and passed upon the following resolution:
                “Whereas at an open meeting of business men and city officials of this border city last June 14 an informal appeal to the President was drawn up, asking him to end the terrorism inflicted upon our citizens and neighbors by Federal customs patrolmen, engaged in prohibition enforcement;
                “and whereas, our appeal has remained unanswered, even though the vicious and unlawful conduct of said government agents have continued unabated‑‑except that there has been no fresh murder of our innocent neighbors;
“Therefore, be it resolved that we, the City Council of the City of International Falls, in regular session assembled, do hereby remind the President that the memorialization of the citizens’ appeal was and is the articulate pleading of the community:
“And be it further resolved that the City Council of the City of International Falls does hereby join its official voice in requesting from our President an urgent response to the pleas for help from our people. (Hoover 1929 1974  195)

Senator Millard Tydings of Maryland was at the time compiling a list of prohibition murders, naming names and giving particulars for publication in “Before and After Prohibition,” so politicians encountered tough sledding trying to ignore over a thousand slaughters.(link)

I thought I smelled beer... BLAM BLAM BLAM!

“Send these murderers to the penitentiary” appeared in Congressional debates.(link)

None of this mattered. It was only late in 1929 that statistician Clark Warburton began pointing out that the black market in banned beverages amounted to 5% of the entire U.S. economy, an amount larger than the entire budget of the federal government tasked by the 18th Amendment with killing, confiscating, libeling, padlocking, jailing and murdering every man woman and child in These States if that’s what it would take to force people to drink what the Prohibition Party ordered them to drink.(link) The Prohibition Party averaged 1.4% of the vote in 11 electoral campaigns. There was no Libertarian Party, but there was a Liberal Party demanding repeal.(link)

Libertarian vote growth

Can you say hockey-stick replacement curve?

By January of 1930, no religious fanatics dared debate the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment, armed with Warburton’s exhaustive reports and calculations on consumption of every possible ingredient used in the production of recreational beverages.(link) Women came out for repeal and financial collapse, unemployment, burgeoning prisons, Hoovervilles, riots, blockades, arson, cop-killings, hunger and economic contraction got the voters’ attention.(link)

The Democrats copied the Liberal Party plank demanding repeal of the Prohibition Amendment.(link)  Hoover promptly became a repeal advocate, but Republican National Socialism was into coercive eugenics and helping Hitler to power, and wouldn’t listen.(link) By March 4, 1933, with every bank in the nation already closed down, Franklin Delano Roosevelt was sworn in and the Dems–who had not yet become communists–ruled the roost for 20 years.

Does any of this sound familiar? like it rhymes? Why not compare the short and simple Libertarian Party Platform?

Are you surprised to learn how the repeal of prohibition began? Buy my book, Prohibition and The Crash, for a month-by-month examination of how President Hoover’s enforcement of the Jones Five and Ten Law crushed the U.S. economy.

Energy Egoism

Chattel slavery collectivism

Energy slaves or human bondage?

Much of the 20th Century was a struggle between the non-chattel slavery of collectivism and the liberation of humanity by bringing electric power into the service of production and survival. But electric power requires understanding of Faraday’s law and the Maxwell equations, which the looter intelligentzia eschew scornfully as egotistical hubris or worse: pulp science fiction!

Michael Faraday as Prometheus

A 1953 edition of Ayn Rand’s Anthem

Yet Rand’s predictions made after Herbert Hoover had comfortably ensconced Adolf Hitler into power over Germany–while Soviet and National Socialism closed in on  Poland–have come awkwardly true again.

How dared you! 1937

How dared you! 1937, 2019

“How dared you think that your mind held greater wisdom than the minds of your brothers?” —Collective 0-0009 in Anthem, by Ayn Rand

The chairs this child sits in Mommy’s lap on while cutting long-division class cost roughly nine grand apiece used.

And if this (electricity) should lighten the toil of men,” said Similarity 5-0306, “then it is a great evil, for men have no cause to exist save in toiling for other men.” (Anthem, by Ayn Rand, 1937, 1946)

Le plus ça change, le plus c’est la même chose. Altruism leaves no choice but between predatory dictatorships for either the priesthood (conservatism, fascism) or the politicians (socialism, communism).

Dividing Private Property

Franco, caudillo de Dios, Mussolini, Lateran treaties

Fascism is socialism cut with christian altruism. All socialists are fascists today in that none seek to nationalize everything

The four squares on the Nolan Chart are the result of grasping the fact that altruist ideologues seek to destroy freedom by attacking individual rights with a meat cleaver.  Two 2-position switches yield four possible combinations or states for two light bulbs. Looters are horrified at the naked way this representation depicts their darling coercion, so their standard reaction is to claim that clarity is oversimplification and there are no either-or choices in real life.

Not for dim bulbs!

Is this difficult?

Such facile dismissal prompted a rebuttal by replacing the flip switches with dimmer switches. This carries the analogy out to more decimal places without giving up the basic conceptual information either version of the model allows you to visualize. So why four possibilities instead of a flip switch and a single light bulb? or just a horizontal line?

If you start with the premise that life is valuable, therefore aggression is wrong, a bar magnet suffices as illustrative visual aid. Objectivists (link) and libertarians flock like iron filings to the pole labeled Voluntary while altruists (fascists, communists, anarchists, socialists) gather at the end labeled Coercive. Agorists see Voluntary as Right, but altruists regard that pole as Wrong after rejecting the life premise.

Undecided voters with neutralized minds or values are imagined to clump near the center of the horizontal line (hence the centrist label). Christians and Mohammedans view the magnet differently. They flock to the Church pole, and imagine themselves squared off against sinners assembled at the Saloon end.

The Nolan Chart was not designed to delight ethical purists nor attract iron filings, but to illustrate to voters the advantages of consistency. Religious conservatives din voters’ ears with horrible prophesies of Race Suicide (in order to rob pregnant women of individual rights). Contrariwise, socialist orators predict appalling Starvation if a rich speculator is allowed to corner the market on food or energy. So the second axis was added to help voters visualize where inconsistency leads.

Even a concept as simple as Private Property can be attacked by lunatics. Officious mystical conservatives will attach to “Private” evidence of a shameful conspiracy to violate a sex taboo, or to experiment with plant leaves. Their socialist comrades single out “Property” as the baaad word, since it is what likens them to thieves. The truth is that such imbeciles are allowed to vote, so the Nolan Chart accommodates the fact by listing the outcome of unprincipled people armed with the suffrage voting the way altruist zealots urge them to vote.

If there were no coercive zealots urging use of ballots to crush economic freedom, scientific inquiry or consensual adulthood, there would be no need for a Nolan chart. A simple line from Good through Muddled to Bad would suffice. Ignoring muddled fools, however, is the formula for failure in politics. Soviet communism and christian National Socialism are examples of failure in politics–you want more?

Why not delve into what sort of voting caused the 1929 Crash? Prohibition and The Crash–Cause and Effect in 1929 does exactly that, matching newspaper accounts against stock market reactions and competing theories. It is live on Amazon Kindle for the price of a pint.
